The Nan Desu Kan Japanese Animation Convention celebrates the art of anime. The festival's guest will be Hiroki Hayashi, animation director at AIC in Japan and creator of the series TENCHI MUYO! Nan Desu Kan will also feature Japanese and American voice-over artists, three 24-hour video rooms, video gaming rooms, an art and model show, an art seminar, guest panels and cultural seminars on Japanese language, music, culture and clothing. The event is expecting approximately 1,500 people this year.

Teen Comic Age 2000 is a festival highlighting teen comic and animation artists. Presented by the Los Angeles Public Library, the event will feature portfolio reviews, comic and animation workshops, panel discussions, celebrity signings and student, computer and anime animation screenings. The festival takes place from 10 am - 5:30 pm and admission is free.

The Baddeck International New Media Festival is a festival highlighting the growing world of new media. The informal event gives attendees a real chance to interact. The event features speakers and participants from across Canada, U.S., U.K., Europe and South America.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is presenting the Third Annual Savannah Film and Video Festival. The festival showcases the talents of up and coming filmmakers in every format from feature length films to shorts. The festival will offer a series of morning workshops, with evening showings of narrative, experimental, animated and feature films and videos. Industry insiders who give pointers on everything from special effects to selling a film present lectures and workshops.

MIFED, the Cinema and Television International Multimedia Market, is a leading market for independent audiovisual productions. MIFED 2000 will focus on new marketing strategies to develop alliances and co-productions.

INDAC 2000, the sixth International Nights and Days of Animation Cologne, is dedicated to highlighting animation history, techniques and new films. Organizer and festival founder Johannes Wolters created the festival as a one-night screening and it has grown into a 12-day extravaganza. The festival approaches animation as an art form that isn't just for kids. Films screened weave education, satire, politics and philosophy from around the globe.

This year the Holland Animation Film Festival will hold its first international competition for independent animation films. With this competition, the festival sets out to promote the short, artistic animation film, and, as a result, encourage media attention toward independent animation. The competition is divided into two separate categories: one for narrative film and one for non-narrative film. In both categories a Grand Prix will be awarded. The maximum length of films entered for the competition is 35 minutes. In addition to this new competition, an international competition for applied animation will be held. Besides the Grand Prix, prizes will be awarded in four categories: commercials, music videos, and informational and educational films. In addition to that, a prize for best campaign will be awarded. Work from young animators will be featured in the competition from students from the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg.

The Independent Film Project/Midwest is holding their ninth annual conference to highlight independent filmmaking in the Midwest region of the United States. On Saturday, the conference will hold E-Cinema Expo, which will be devoted to DV, HD and Internet-based filmmaking. On Saturday evening, The Flyover Zone Film Festival will showcase short subjects created by IFP/Midwest members or in the "Flyover Zone" (i.e. the Midwest). During the festival, the IFP/Midwest will announce the recipient of this year's Independent Production Fund grant. Annually, IFP/Midwest takes submissions for a new film project from members and the winner receives US$40,000 to help in the production of the short film. The conference will feature independent feature premieres and various panel discussions.

The Toronto Animated Image Society will be hosting a short attention span festival. TAIS members Mike Constable and Jonathan Amitay have animated pieces in this festival of films that are two minutes or less in length. There will be two shows: one at 7 pm and one at 9 pm.
