The Los Angeles Guild of Puppetry
Proudly Presents

The Second Puppet Short Film and Video Festival.

What do fiddle-playing demons, the president of the United States, and a squirrel with genital herpes have in common? The Puppet Short Film and Video Festival! Our underdog puppet protagonists win again and again in this festive journey through the art of puppetry for the screen as a pubescent girl saves the world, Fleece People try to right the injustices of "The Eddie Bauer Massacre," Satan loses a bet, a squirrel emerges triumphant from an ugly breakup, and a coyote and his cornbread buddy discover that friendship is more important than money.

The Puppet Short Film and Video Festival has it all at the beautiful, new Platinum Live cabaret and supper club. The majority of this material is not conventionally available and many films and videos feature terrific work by local puppeteers and filmmakers, as well films from Japan, New York, and Milwaukee.
The evening includes recipients of the Telly Award, the Videographer Award of Excellence, and a Sundance "Best Short" winner. Some of the artists will be on hand for this extraordinary event.
Some material may NOT be suitable for children.

This year's series includes L.A. premiere screenings of COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE, based on the hit anime series; the sensual Japanese swordfest PRINCESS BLADE; the astounding British werewolf movie DOG SOLDIERS; insane yakuza/zombie action flick VERSUS; and USHER, the first new film from director Curtis Harrington (NIGHT TIDE, GAMES) in over 15 years! Sponsored by A & E Home Video, a special highlight of the Festival will be an in-person tribute to British fantasy/sci-fi pioneer Gerry Anderson (born 1929), who used his delightful "SuperMarionation" process to create a rocket-fueled world of supercars, sinister aliens and ingenious scientists in classic TV series like "Thunderbirds," "Space: 1999," and "Captain Scarlet & The Mysterons." And if you missed the wonders in our Alexander Ptushko series last May, check out THE STONE FLOWER, VIY, SADKO and THE NEW GULLIVER - from this Russian special effects pioneer.

International Film Festival of Wales

Starts: Nov 21, 2002 - Ends: Nov 29, 2002
Submission Deadline: Aug 24, 2002
Location: Cardiff (Caerdydd), UK
Website: http://www.iffw.co.uk
The 14th International Film Festival of Wales takes place in Wales' capital city, Cardiff in November. In 2001 the festival attracted over six and a half thousand visitors in eight days to watch over forty feature films and over a hundred short films. It is truly an international festival presenting world, European and Welsh premieres; the latest new films from other international festivals and providing a platform for the work of the local film production sector.

Animation is a major feature of the festival and over two days a 'festival within a festival' is created in the UGC cinema showcasing the latest animation techniques; the work of star animators and interesting new international animation films.

The festival has two prestigious awards: the FilmFour Audience Award, voted by the audience for their favourite film of the festival; and the DM Davies Award, the largest short film prize in Europe which launched the careers of Justin Kerrigan (Human Traffic) and Sara Sugarman (Very Annie Mary). Daniel Mulloy, the 2001 winner is certainly a new talent to watch.

The festival takes over the top floor of the city centre UGC cinema for the duration. The setting is stunning, with panoramic views over the city - an ideal venue for corporate entertainment events. During festival week there's a real buzz : there are pre-screening drinks; parties and plenty of discussion in the late night festival bar.
