The Third BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards highlights the best in interactive entertainment. This year there will be 21 categories, including two special awards: best UH developer and the Berners-Lee award for best personal contribution to the U.K. industry. The 2000 awards will feature 10 new categories. The categories include: interactive arts, enhancement of linear media, news, factual, children's, learning, on-line learning, entertainment Web site, lifestyle and leisure, sports, games-mobile or networked, games-PC, games-console, interactivity, interface design, moving images, music, sound and technical innovation.

The Digital Media Innovations Conference has a full program dedicated to animation, 3D visualization and multimedia and telecommunications convergence. In animation, the conference will feature seminars on digital technologies, 3D animation software developments, cutting edge of digital visual effects, CG 4 kids' programming, tools for animating the Web, storytelling for the digital age and future opportunities in new media. In 3D visualization, the event will hold discussion on: applied parallel processing and scientific data visualization; virtual reality in education and training; visualization and simulation in engineering; new media and medicine; interactive data exchange; enabling the architects and designers of the future; and HDTV, interactive TV and digital TV. Finally in multimedia, the conference will feature speakers on: leading edge contact centre management; embedded technologies; the Internet; Web design; collaborative authoring for new media; e-business incubation; and network architecture for e-business.

Flashcore, the Los Angeles-based new media users group, will be holding a new media and Internet expo centering on interactivity. The event will start with a product demonstration of Swift3D's Electric Rain. The tutorials will cover beginning Flash interactivity and programming; delivering Flash designs on DVD/DVD-Rom; and interactive storytelling with Flash. Moderated by Roger Vetruba of Toonshoppe Animation, the interactive panels will discuss the future of interactive storytelling.

The Baddeck International New Media Festival is a festival highlighting the growing world of new media. The informal event gives attendees a real chance to interact. The event features speakers and participants from across Canada, U.S., U.K., Europe and South America.

"bit by bit" is an all digital visual exhibition of "on-screen" art that aspires to recognize, promote and reward the best digital work being produced around the world today. This juried gallery exhibition will be installed on large format monitors in the Main Gallery of the Business of Art Center. The exhibition has three categories: still, dynamic and interactive. Prizes -- including a US$1,000 best of show award -- will be awarded to artists based on quality, skill and originality. Additional prizes will include cash awards, hardware, software and services. iMIX 2.0 is the interactive television industry's professional event, focusing on issues such as technology, licensing, advertising, privacy, community-building and non-linear content creation. iMIX Executive Conference takes place from October 10-11 and the iMIX Developers Conference and Expo from October 12-13, 2000. Executive Conference keynote addresses will be delivered by reps from AT&T and Echostar Communications. The event will include seminars and case studies. The Wanadoo Talent Show highlights the producers and scriptwriters from audiovisual television and Internet programs. Held in conjunction with MIPCOM, the event is presented by Wanadoo, the leading Internet provider in France. All projects will be reviewed by a committee of audiovisual and multimedia professionals, who will select six candidates to participate in the special "talent show" during the beginning of MIPCOM. The winner will receive 50,000FF (US$ 6,993.17) and the second place winner 20,000FF ($2,797.27).
