The 98th Annual American International Toy Fair is one of the premiere events in the U.S. for the toy and collectible industry. Each year the major product producers unveil their line of new toys for the upcoming year. This event is a hotbed for the animation community due to the powerful presence of marketing in animation.

The Second Annual International Festival of Time-Based Media is being presented by the University of Southern California School of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Santa Monica Museum of Art. The festival will take place on both the USC Campus, Los Angeles and at the SMMoA, Santa Monica. Art In Motion is organized around a central theme, and the only criteria for submission is that works be "time-based." This year's theme is "The Vanishing Author?" an exploration of the changing view of whom is "The Author" of modern artwork. Entries may address the festival theme directly or indirectly. If, for example, you are an "Author," or your work is made collaboratively, employs sampling and appropriation and/or is available for others to sample, then it is addressing the theme. A jury will view all selected works and award, among others the US$1000 Intelefilm Award for Creative Excellence. The Art in Motion II jurors are Tom Leeser, Visual Effects Supervisor/Art Director at Rhythm & Hues; Janice Tanaka, a video collage artist; and T. Kim Trang, an internationally-acclaimed video artist and independent curator of digital media.

The American Institute of Graphic Art (AIGA) is presenting their 6th Annual Y Design Conference. The theme of the event is "Connectivity" and will focus on how graphic designers and artists can use their talents to reach the community and support important causes. Additionally, LINK scholarships will be given to underprivileged youth pursuing careers in design on Saturday at 3:45 pm. The event will take place at the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art from 9 am - 5:30 pm.

The Second Annual Interactive TV Games Conference follows the new trends in the booming new sector of interactive TV games. The events will look at the new games formats, delivering new and existing games channels, synchronizing live enhanced TV game shows, developing and improving advanced interactive gaming resources such as WAP and the possibilities provided by advanced interactive technologies. The conference is a good opportunity for professionals in the new media field to discuss and conduct business in the growing interactive TV market.

The Project Exhibition is an exhibition of animation and new media artwork from Nic Hess, Janine Cirincione and Michael Ferraro. This is Nic Hess' first gallery exhibition in the U.S. He focuses on large murals. The team of Cirincione and Ferraro has worked together since 1992 creating visually innovative animation and new media.

The Webisode Academy is holding a voice and sound capture workshop. Attendees will go to an actual sound studio and record their voices. A discussion will follow about the uses of voice capture on the Web.

The University of Washington is presenting a lecture by Isaac Kerlow, director of digital production for new technology and new media at Disney Animation Studios. Kerlow will discuss the convergence of classical and digital animation at Disney. The event will be held in Room 108, in the Student Union Building on the UW campus at 4:30 pm. The lecture is sponsored by the Animation Research Labs and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.
