Cinemagic 2000, Northern Ireland's International Film Festival for Young People, is an international conference and fair exploring the nature of entertainment and education for young people in the digital age. Roy E. Disney, vice chairman of the Disney Corp., Myra Langdon Riesman, pioneer of original broadband Internet programming, and Chris Deering, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, Europe, head the list of speakers. Cinemagic 2000 will also feature an interactive fair, "Arena 21," which is a multimedia event that will feature the latest in digital technology, computer games and interactive entertainment from around the world. Visitors will be able to take part in interactive workshops, see the future in home cinema and integrated entertainment systems and have a preview of the latest technology, including a virtual classroom. The Cinemagic 2000 Film Festival will be showing seventy of the best films for young people from around the world during their ten day festival which includes lectures, outreach workshops and 6 masterclasses with some of the film industry's top professionals.

The Independent Film Project/Midwest is holding their ninth annual conference to highlight independent filmmaking in the Midwest region of the United States. On Saturday, the conference will hold E-Cinema Expo, which will be devoted to DV, HD and Internet-based filmmaking. On Saturday evening, The Flyover Zone Film Festival will showcase short subjects created by IFP/Midwest members or in the "Flyover Zone" (i.e. the Midwest). During the festival, the IFP/Midwest will announce the recipient of this year's Independent Production Fund grant. Annually, IFP/Midwest takes submissions for a new film project from members and the winner receives US$40,000 to help in the production of the short film. The conference will feature independent feature premieres and various panel discussions.

The 8th New York Digital Salon is an international juried exhibition of prints, sculptures, interactive installments, performances, animation, digital video and Internet art made with the computer. The jury will pick 85 entries from over 800 applicants to be showcased in the exhibit. After its run in New York, the exhibit plans to tour Europe and Asia. Previously, it has traveled to Milan, Italy; Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Valladolid and the Canary Islands, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal. The event will be kicked off with a reception on November 6 from 6 - 8 pm. The Visual Arts Museum is open Monday - Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 6:30 pm, Thursday from 9 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Glendale Community College is presenting an evening with Frank Gladstone, who has worked as a professional animator, producer, director, writer and teacher for more than 25 years. Currently, he is head of artistic development at DreamWorks, SKG Animation. Gladstone will go through a step by step critique of the Charlie Chaplin film CITY LIGHTS to determine "what makes a great film great." He will look into the effects of lighting, intensity, background interest, etc., along with a good story. This screening will be the first in a series of classic films that will become part of the "Animation Lecture Series," as good animated films have all the same qualities as a live-action film. The event will have a US$5 admission price and will take place from 7 - 9:30 pm.
