The Nashville Independent Film Festival (NIFF) will showcase the best in independent film and video featuring premiere screenings of award winning works, seminars, panel discussions and guest appearances by nationally recognized film/video makers. The festival is one of the few Academy Award qualifying festivals for animation. Adding to the Feature, Animation, Documentary, Short Film and Young Filmmaker categories, the festival has opened up some new categories this year: Television Pilot/Episodic Television, and Family and Children Films. Entry fees range from $10 to $50.

Golden Sheaf Awards or the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival offer awards in various categories which include Children's Production, Documentray Over 30 Minutes, Documentray Under 30 Minutes, and Drama Under 60 minutes. Films must be 16mm, BETACAM, BETACAM SP NTSC or VHS NTSC. The entry fee for the competition is CA$100. All films entered must have been completed between March 13, 1999 and February 10, 2000.

The Crested Butte Reel Festival is a competitive short film festival with an animation, experimental and student category. The shorts must be under 40 minutes. The New York Animation Festival, in collaboration with Video Lounge, presents Outer Limits, an international series of short animation, experimental, narrative and documentary film and video. Outer Limits will present a vast array of independent and innovative work from more than a dozen countries. An international program featuring animated films by Amy Kravitz (ROOST AND THE TRAP), Dana Behrman (PIGLATIN), Avi Katz (LAST WALTZ IN NEW YORK) and Sylvie Bringas and Orly Yadim (SILENCE) will be held on May 16 at 7:30 pm and May 18 at 9:30 pm. Also a program of new animation from Australia will be screened on June 2 at 7 pm, presented by Melbourne animator Rhian Hinkley. A program of recent Swiss Animation on June 16 at 9 pm and a retrospective of Swiss animator Georges Schwizgebel on June 17 at 7 pm will be presented by Fantoche International Animation Festival.

Large Format Cinema Festival

LFCA 2000 will mark the the Large Format Cinema Association's 4th annual Conference and 3rd annual Large Format Film Festival. The competition is open to all member of the international large format industry. The Festival highlights new and classic works in 15/70 and 8/70, an historical tribute to a pioneer of the large format film industry, and a closing gala featuring a 5/70 Hollywood widescreen classic. The Conference will feature panels, technical sessions, historical tributes, awards, and a keynote presentation.
