The 23rd annual Vancouver International Film Festival encourages the understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, to foster the art of cinema, to facilitate the meeting in British Columbia of cinema professionals from around the world, and to stimulate the motion picture industry in British Columbia and Canada. More than 150,000 people attended 500 screenings of more than 300 films from more than 50 countries. In 2003 there were a record 261 feature and mid-length films, plus 85 shorts.

The World of Comedy International Film Festival has put out a call for feature film and shorts entries for its third annual event in Toronto Feb. 9-13, 2005. In addition to the film competition, the 2004 festival will host a series of workshops and panels to foster the further development of those interested in comedy filmmaking.

The festival is looking for submissions for both features and shorts in the following categories: narrative, animation, mockumentary, experimental and documentaries about comedy and/or personalities involved in comedic filmmaking.
