The Independent Arts Festival offers space to exhibit, show and perform any form of creativity especially those in the independent scene. The event is focused to up and coming young artists who have never exhibited their art before. The festival also invites international, independent and professional artists to share their artwork. The motto of the event is: "Art is not boring." The festival also wants to give attention to the comic and zine scene. The event will feature a reading corner where visitors will be able to read comics and zines, and give comic artists and zine publishers the possibility to come and show or sell their products. Anima 2004 organizers have created a new competition category for Internet films, called WebAnima 2004. The competition is open to all, amateurs and professionals alike. It is intended for any animated work, using any animation technique (e.g. Flash) but excluding live-action, and made specifically for screening on the Internet. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three works. Entries must not exceed 2 MB. From the 15 finalists, the same jury will chose a Grand Prix winner, sponsored by SPIROU.COM (les Editions Dupuis S.A.). The winner will receive 2,500 Euros, in the form of one or several commissioned work(s) to be featured on the SPIROU.COM Website. The countdown has begun!

The next Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, will take place in Flagey from 10 to 20 February 2010

Over one hundred and fifty films in the international competition (shorts and features, commercials, music videos), retrospectives, exhibitions, lessons, workshops for the kids, the Futurama professional days, round-table discussions, numerous guests and film concerts make Brussels an international appointment not to be ignored. It's also the place to find out about Belgian animation with a national competition and screenings in panorama. Add to that a very "Animated Night" full of films, and Anima easily confirms itself a "must" for the thirty thousand spectators that flock to Flagey, the prestigious cultural centre of Belgium's capital city.

Anima 2011- Brussels Animation Film Festival

Anima, the International Animation Film Festival of Brussels will take place at the Flagey Centre from 4th to 13th March 2011 and will be celebrating its 30th edition. In fact, the first ever Anima took place in February 1982. Over one hundred films in the official competition (shorts and features, commercials and music videos), retrospectives, exhibitions, film master classes, workshops for the kids, the Futuranima professional days, round table discussions, numerous guests and cine-concerts, make Brussels THE international appointment with animation for the beginning of the year. If you add events like "the Animated Night", the Cartoon d'Or and the Cosplay, Anima has established itself as a must for the thirty thousand spectators that flock to the Flagey Centre. And a special date to mark with a cross this year: we'll be celebrating thirty years of surprises, fun and discoveries.

Anima 2011 Competition

Short-film: short animated films made after June 30, 2009 regardless of its geographic origin, except of Belgium.Student film: short animated films made after June 30, 2009 regardless of its geographic origin, except of Belgium.Music videos and Commercials : short animated films made after June 30, 2009 regardless of its geographic origin.Feature-film previews: animated feature films made after June 30, 2009, regardless of its geographic origin.Feature-film for children previews: animated feature films made after June 30, 2009, regardless of its geographic origin.Belgian shorts: Belgian animated films completed after June 30, 2009.

Amongst these categories, some shorts will constitute an international competition and some others a national competition, with money prizes from 1.000 up to 2.500 Euros.

The Festival looks after the round trips of selected films and awards anumber of cash and other prizes to the winners.

Anim!Arte 2009 - Brazilian Student Animation Festival

Anim!Arte is an international film festival of animation movies with focus in the student public. It has as objective to stimulate the culture, as soon as the professional artistic grown, of the Animation Business in Brazil. This has been instrumental in the production of animation movies, mainly among students.

During the event, competitive film festivals of movies made by students assemblage prizes for the winners. Although, there is a parallel film festival with professional moviemakers, Brazilian and international, that complete this group of selected movies.

In the competitive student’s animation film festival, there are three categories for brazilian students: basic education, highschool and college students. But, for international students, there is only one category in the competition. The best international animation done by a student (outside Brazil) wins the original Animarte´s Tropical Trophy.

The election is constructed by two juries’: the professional one, and the popular. The professional jury is composed by teachers, visual art professionals, drawers, animation moviemakers, filmmakers and journalists. Otherwise, the popular jury is composed by the spectators, who vote on the films in the festival.

Usually, the program also has lectures with professionals of the animation and of the audiovisual business, besides expositions and workshops of animation.
