The Inaugural Durango Film Festival is a new festival dedicated to showcasing independent film work in various mediums. The festival will feature several receptions, screenings and educational events. Winners will be determined by the festival's jury. The mission of this new festival is to entertain and educate the community, and to encourage and empower artists, through a competitive showcase of diverse and provocative independent feature films, documentaries, shorts and new media works.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has moved their awards to before the American Academy's Oscar ceremony. The British Academy offers a short animated film award. To be eligible the films must be completed between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000. Films to be completed after the October 31 deadline must contact Katie Hart at the Academy to set up a submission date.

The Texas Film Festival is the largest student-run festival in the U.S. The festival focuses on the artistic and educational aspects of film and video and welcomes works by students and novices, as well as more well-known filmmakers. The event offers addresses and informal workshops with the artists. Some of the past guests have included Spike Lee, Oliver Stone and Robert Rodriguez.

The Phoenix Film Festival is a celebration of the movie image. The event features many screenings, seminars, tributes and answer and question discussions.

The Victoria Independent Film & Video Festival's goal is to highlight the work of talented burgeoning filmmakers. This year's event will feature a tribute to Canadian animation studio, International Rocketship. Three-days of the festival will be devoted to animation, including an intensive animation workshop. Over 130 features and shorts in narrative, animation, documentary and experimental will be screened at the 10-day festival.

The Sundance Film Festival is one of the premiere independent film festivals in the United States. From over 3,000 submissions, the selection board chooses over 100 feature-length films and 60 shorts for exhibition. The event attracts more than 20,000 people from around the world. The World Cinema program of the film festival presents new works by today's most innovative international filmmakers. Animation bad boy Bill Plympton will premiere his new feature MUTANT ALIENS at this year's Sundance Fest. This year's event will also feature a screening of online work from Mondo Media, Cartoon Network.com and Hypnotic.

MadCat International Women's Film Festival features independent and experimental works by women from around the world. MadCat is committed to showcasing women film and videomakers who challenge the use of sound and image and explore notions of visual storytelling. This year Madcat is embarking on its first touring festival with two programs of short films: Lost In Translation and Interior Worlds. All lengths and genres will be considered. Formats: Preview: 1/2" NTSC (VHS) standard preferred; Exhibition: 16mm, Super 8 film, VHS and 3/4". Entry Fees range from US$10.00 to $30.00 per entry (pay whatever you can afford!). The 4th Annual Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is an event that embraces creative, strange and entertaining films. Feature films, short films, videos and documentaries are all accepted. All films must be independently produced with an Asian/Asian North American in a key creative role. The festival strongly encourages first-time and emerging directors to submit projects.

Organized by the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts
and Sciences, the International Emmy Awards acknowledge the special skills of the
men and women who create and produce television programs outside of the United
States. Awards are presented in seven categories of programming: Drama,
Documentary, Arts Documentary, Performing Arts, Popular Arts, Children and Young

The Second Annual Ajijic Festival de Cine is inviting both students as well as professionals to submit their entries in the categories of animation, documentaries, independent and studio produced feature films, short subjects and screenplays.
