The International Animated Film Festival "BIMINI" is the only festival of its kind in Latvia. Animation is an art equally interesting for different age and social groups. The festival features an annual screening of the best works in world animation. The festival encourages exchange of creative experience, search of new ideas, styles and technologies as well as integration of Latvian animation into the global cinema process. Another aim of the festival is the introduction of young animators into the world of professional animation of high artistic standards. The program includes animated films both for children and adults. The films are translated into Latvian and Russian. The festival features the following film screenings: competition and non-competition film screenings as well as a retrospective and an informative program. The organizing committee appoints a professional selection committee consisting of five people, which selects films for the competition and non-competition screenings. The second Outer Limits Film and Video Series is a collaboratively organized series of short experimental, documentary, animation and independent narrative film and video, with an emphasis on work from the far geographic and cultural reaches. The 2001 series will focus on (but is not limited to) three areas of the global experience: global tourism and tourists; individualism, eccentrics and vernacular culture; and time and distance. The 33rd Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) will be held March 19-29, 2009 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The festival features two family film programs as well as several shorts programs that feature animation. Last year, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences designated the CIFF as one of its qualifiers to the Academy Awards.

As part of Marin County Fair, the 34th Annual Marin County Festival of Short Film and Video is open to students and independent filmmakers, whose films are not commercially subsidized. Films 30 minutes or less must have been completed after January 1, 2003. Films entered in previous years may not be resubmitted. There will be up to $2,000 of prize money available to winners. The early deadline is March 19 for $30 ($35 Foreign) and the final deadline is April 16 for $35 ($40 Foreign).
