Co-presented by the Newport Beach Film Festival and the Orange County Museum of Art, Cinema Orange will spotlight the cinematic works of independent filmmakers from around the world. Celebrating its fourth season, the 2008 Cinema Orange summer film series will showcase an eclectic slate of feature length narrative, documentary, short and animated films from the recent 2008 Newport Beach Film Festival. Be sure to check out the Animation Showcase on August 7, 2008. Dedicated to championing the works of aspiring and established filmmakers, the Festival and OCMA proudly embrace the passion, independent spirit and creative vision of these talented artists. Interactive question and answer with filmmakers will follow select screenings. Films will screen on select Thursday evenings in the museum's auditorium. Film screenings are free with museum admission.

2008 DIY Convention

In its eighth year, the DIY Convention is taking a different turn by offering participants the chance to meet with people who actually know what it's like to take a project to the next level. You'll share a drink, a meal, a laugh and present a showcase or screening in front of people that matter. Tickets will not be sold for this event. Instead, the event will select the most promising entrants from the DIY Music, DIY Film Festival and DIY Book Festival and invite them for an intimate series of salons, dinners and receptions with industry leaders. On the film side, the event will offer a chance to sit down over dinner with a select panel of producers, directors and distributors, followed by a screening of the top DIY Film Festival selections for this year. The Los Angeles Film Festival features world premieres, including independent films and major studio releases, tribute screenings, free outdoor movies, celebrity-filled red carpets, VIP parties and more. Drawing a diverse audience of more than 60,000 attendees, the festival offers interactive programming, family-friendly events and more than 75 features and 60 short film screenings from around the world. The NAB Show is the world's largest professional digital media industry convention. The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has been hosting this event for over 80 years for all traditional broadcast, entertainment and emerging platform industries, including TV, Radio, Film, Internet and many others. Kamy Merithew, Vice President of Marketing for WEGENER, and Gary Pelkey, WEGENER’s VP System Architect, will present discussions at the World Teleport Association (WTA) Content Distribution Forum and the 62nd Annual Broadcast Engineering Conference respectively. Pelkey will be joined by Eric Wiler, VP of Technology for Jones Radio Network, for a presentation entitled "Radio Broadcasters: Building File-Based Networks". They will examine the technology behind the next generation of satellite-delivered programming and discuss ways to provide listeners and advertisers with a sense of local presence by transitioning to file-based program delivery. 2008 Palm Springs International ShortFest

Now in its 14th year, the festival will show 317 films, selected from a record of more than 2,700 worldwide entries. ShortFest will showcase 53 world premieres, 47 North American premieres and 24 U.S. premieres. The selected short films are organized into 51 themed programs covering a variety of genres -- including thrillers, horror, animation, documentaries, and comedies -- and themes, including boy meets girl, siblings, security issues, crime, sins, romance, lust, friendship, parenthood, culture clashes, performance, travel, the Jewish experience, gay and lesbian lifestyles, and the event will feature a special focus on films from France. 2008 Sonoma Valley Film Festival

The Sonoma Valley Film Festival will screen more than 75 new independent films and present an array of thrilling special events including a tribute to acclaimed actor Michael Keaton, live musical performances, special celebrity appearances, filmmaker Q&A's, sizzling parties, and a grand Opening Night Gala party at Jacuzzi Winery following the premiere of the Festival's Opening Night Film FUGITIVE PIECES. Their all-new animated program will be shown April 11 at 12 p.m. at the Vine Theater and on April 13 at 9 a.m. at the Vine Theater. The line-up includes ZOOLOGIC, FLATLAND: THE MOVIE, BIG DREAMS, MFA, THE TOLL, 'TILL DEATH DO US PART, BARE, A SHADY DEAL, THE INTRUDER, FANTAISIE IN BUBBLEWRAP and MARCELINO AND BARTOLOMEO: 'BYE-BYE!' Sonoma boasts the only official film festival sommelier, Christopher Sawyer, who pairs wine with all the films. The festival will kick off on Wednesday, April 9 with its Sneak Preview Film, the U.S. premiere of LOVE AND OTHER DISASTERS, starring Brittany Murphy, Matthew Rhys, Orlando Bloom, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Directed by Alek Keshishian, the cult director of MADONNA: TRUTH OR DARE and presented by Luc Besson and David Fincher, it's a stylish, sexy comedy about an obsessive matchmaker (Murphy) with a fast-paced life at British VOGUE. Keshishian and Rhys who be in attendance at this year's festival. The Film Festival will officially open on Thursday, April 10 with premiere and encore screenings of FUGITIVE PIECES, starring international film star Rade Sherbedgia, Stephen Dillane, Rachelle LeFevre, Ayelet Zurer, Rosamund Pike and directed by Jeremy Podeswa, many of whom will be in attendance at this year's festival to support their film. FUGITIVE PIECES is a lushly executed poetic epic, dramatically gripping and deeply moving, and features a powerful international ensemble cast. A powerful and unforgettably lyrical film about love, loss and redemption, FUGITIVE PIECES tells the story of Jakob Beer (Stephen Dillane), a man whose life is transformed by his childhood experiences during WWII. As a child in Poland, he is orphaned then saved by a compassionate Greek archeologist (Rade Sherbedgia). Over the course of his life, he attempts to deal with the losses he has endured. Through his writing, and then through the discovery of true love, Jakob is ultimately freed from the legacy of his past. YOUNG@ HEART, the 2008 Closing Night Film on Sunday, April 13, will bring the festival to a show-stopping finale. Garnering huge buzz across the country, YOUNG@HEART is a musical documentary that follows the seniors-only choir YOUNG@HEART as they amaze and stun with their unexpected covers of artists from Jimi Hendrix to Sonic Youth to James Brown. The Sonoma Valley Film Festival will also honor actor and debut director Michael Keaton with the 2008 Tribute on Saturday, April 12 at the Sebastiani Theatre in Sonoma.
