TERRES EN VUES/LAND InSIGHTS, an association created to promote native culture, is presenting the 11th Edition of the Montreal First Peoples' Festival. The event highlights films made by American natives and about native issues and topics. Selected films and videos will be in competition, unless the filmmaker wishes them to be screened only. Awards will be given on June 17, during a special event. To be eligible for competition, the work must have been produced no more than 3 years before the festival. Awards are given for the artistic quality of the works showing originality in terms of content and style, a skillful sense of film or media expression and corresponding deeply to the soul of the First Peoples.

The Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival For Children highlights animated, live-action and documentaries made for children. The event features school screenings geared toward children ages 8-17. This year's program will feature 13 films from 9 countries. The event will feature educational classes and workshops. The Writers Guild of Canada and YTV will conduct classes on turning stories into screenplays and film critics will teach children how to write film critiques.

Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for children presents the best of international and Canadian films for children and youth aged 4-18 including shorts, features, documentaries, live action and animation. Sprockets is a competitive festival and is pleased to host a number of guests including filmmakers, programmers and buyers each year. Sprockets promotes contacts between industry professionals to assist in the development of the role cinema plays in the education and enrichment of young people.

Sprockets Awards include 2 audience awards: one for favaorite feature and one for favourite animation, and 3 young people's jury awards, two for feature films and one for short films. Animated work is eligible for all awards.

International Festival of Cinema and Technology

The International Festival of Cinema and Technology will be continuing its touring festival in Toronto March 2003. The tour premiered in London and Paris in December 2002. The festival has a large animation and computer animation showcase which features a wide variety of projects from indie and first time filmmakers. The festival also will screen a variety of docs, dramas and comedies. The International Festival of Cinema and Technology uses new and emerging technologies to showcase films and videos. The Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF)is an annual international event that celebrates films directed by women. All genres are welcome. The FeFF gives women, who are under-represented in the film industry, the opportunity to showcase their work. In 2002, the FeFF launched the inaugural FeFF Screenwriters Program. Films must be directed by women and preference is given to scripts that are written by female scribes. Entry fee for film submisions is $20.00. Screenplays are $15.00. Submission deadline is June 6th, 2003. Festival dates are Nov. 20 -23, 2003.
