The Independent Games Festival (IGF) is open to all independent developers to submit their games -- whether on PC, console, digital download, Web browser, or other more exotic formats. The prizes for the 2008 event total nearly $50,000, including the $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize. The complete lineup includes more than 40 judges, many of whom are returning for the fourth or fifth time to help evaluate this year's entries. Winners will be announced at the IGF ceremony, February 20, 2008, during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. The 10th annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books event celebrates and animates the written word through panel discussions, poetry readings, cooking demonstrations, book signings and music. The festival affords book lovers the chance to meet best-selling authors, publishers and other literary figures. The hundreds of exhibitor booths, stage events and popular children's characters keep it entertaining for all ages. Admission is free, but tickets are required to attend author-panel discussions and lectures because of limited seating. Free tickets will be available at all Ticketmaster locations in Southern California starting April 17, at noon until April 21, at 5 p.m., or until all tickets have been distributed.
