Ryan Screening

TIAS presents RYAN, a 15-minute 3D animated short film by Chris Landreth in a surrealist documentary form, about Ryan Larkin. Ryan was a brilliant and talented traditional animator who produced films for the NFB in the early '70s. One of his films was nominated for an Academy Award. Through his demons with alcohol and drugs, he fell to homelessness and begging on the streets of Montreal. It is the story of a broken genius, a talent that was rocketing to the top -- but deteriorated into oblivion. Chris Landreth went to Montreal to interview Ryan who and to talk about his life, and his work. This is one time only exclusive Canadian Sneak Preview screening before the film is taken to the festival circuit around the globe. Tickets are$10 each, limited seating. The screening begins at 7:00 pm at the Paramount Theatre, Toronto.

Women In Animation Canada, in conjunction with VanArts, is hosting an interview with Academy Award-winning animation director Bob Godfrey, conducted by Bonita Versh from Klasky Csupo. Godfrey is well known for his amazing stories and will be talking about his life in animation, with a Q & A period to follow. The World of Comedy International Film Festival has put out a call for feature film and shorts entries for its third annual event in Toronto Feb. 9-13, 2005. In addition to the film competition, the 2004 festival will host a series of workshops and panels to foster the further development of those interested in comedy filmmaking.

The festival is looking for submissions for both features and shorts in the following categories: narrative, animation, mockumentary, experimental and documentaries about comedy and/or personalities involved in comedic filmmaking.
