Dear colleagues,

Our Association, "World Animation Festival Varna’ 2011", consists of producers and directors of animated films, united by the idea to revive the Varna World Animation Festival.  It had six editions - from October, 1979 until October, 1989. Held under the auspices of the General Assembly of the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Bulgarian Film Makers’ Union, it was one of the largest and most significant world events of its kind, along with the festivals in Annecy, Zagreb, Ottawa, and later on, Hiroshima. Some of the worldwide renowned names in animation have taken part in it, thus contributing much to the festival’s highest prestige.  Among the awarded films were masterpieces which would later be studied as classic examples in the history of animation. For its 10 years of existence, the festival was the most significant animation forum in the whole of Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, due to the economic collapse of the country in a period of political transformation, this remarkable celebration of animation came to an end.

Our association has finally succeeded in reviving it. The festival will last five days and will be held in the early days of September, 2011, at the Festival Complex in Varna.

In the forthcoming edition of the Festival there will be a special students’ films programme and a lot of exciting events for the world of animation.

Please, submit your students’ and professional films! Deadline for entries is the 6th of July.

You can submit your application form online at www.varnafest.org.

Looking forward to seeing your films!

Association "World Animation Festival Varna’2011"
