Adobe Systems Inc. is hosting the eighth annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA). The awards honor talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from the world's top institutions of higher education. Reflecting the growth in the interactive design field and the importance of the integration between design and development, Adobe has added several new categories in three media areas: Interactive Media, Motion Media, and Traditional Media. * Interactive Media categories include Browser-Based Design, Non-Browser Based Design, Designer/Developer Collaboration, Installation Design and Mobile Design. * Motion Media categories include Animation, Live Action and Motion Graphics. * Traditional Media categories include Illustration, Packaging, Photography, and Print Communications. Students from more than 30 countries are invited to submit projects through the Adobe Design Achievement Awards website. 2008 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is one of the premier venues for nonfiction film in the American West. The festival will screen 100 films, including world and U.S. premieres, classics, rare and experimental works on Montana's largest screen at the historic Wilma Theater in downtown Missoula, Montana. In addition to seven days of screenings, many public and VIP events including panel discussions, galas, receptions and networking roundtables. The competitive event is open to non-fiction films and videos of all genres, subject matter, lengths and production dates. Starting May 7, submissions for the 2008 BlueCat Screenwriting Lab, will be open. Short and feature length screenplays are welcome. All screenplays entered for consideration will be evaluated for narrative promise, emotional impact, original voice and personal spirit.

Based on these criteria, three writers will be named BlueCat Fellows and flown to Los Angeles for one week of intense development in the home of the motion picture industry, all expenses paid. In addition, each fellow will receive $1,000.

Working with professionals of the motion picture industry, the BlueCat Screenwriting Lab Week will focus on your goals of your screenplay, while helping you shape and define your identity as a screenwriter and an artist of cinema.

2008 British Animation Awards (BAAs)

The British Animation Awards, also known as the BAAs, were launched in 1996 and are a biannual event that covers the whole spectrum of contemporary animation production in the U.K., from short films to features, music videos to student and experimental work, animated commercials, creative use of new technologies, sound, TV and film graphics, and children's entertainment. Categories are judged by peer groups and there is also a children's jury. The Public Choice Awards give the general public an opportunity to vote for their favorites in selected categories via screenings held in cinemas across the U.K. Winners receive a one-of-a-kind piece of sheep-themed artwork created by an inspirational fellow artist or animator. BAA is introducing a new category in 2008 to celebrate talented artists lending their voice to animated work. The Best Character Voice Performance award will be sponsored by The Sound Company.
