19th Singapore International Film Festival

Launched in 1987, the Singapore International Film Festival sets out to promote film as an artistic medium, provide the opportunity to audiences to view films not otherwise released commercially, create awareness of the finer points of filmmaking through seminars and workshops by overseas professionals, pave the way for a Singapore film industry and provide an international showcase for Asian Cinema.

The Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) is an annual film event, which screens about 300 films from more than 45 countries. Besides screening award winning and critically acclaimed films, we also organize workshops, seminars and exhibitions on filmmaking for the film students and the film industry.

The Festival is recognized by international film critics for its programming and focus on Asian Cinema and has a platform for new Singapore films and a window to South East Asian films. Many festival programmers and critics attend our Festival to discover new Asian talents. Tributes to the SIFF have been organized by the Cine Vegas Film Festival and the European Institute of Cinema.

2004 China International Cartoon and Digital Art Festival (CICDAF)

The 2004' China International Cartoon and Digital Art Festival is sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. The main events of the festival will include: The China International Cartoon Competition and Awards Ceremony; screenings of Chinese and international cartoon films; forum on cartoon industry and cartoon art and the China International Cartoon Product Market from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1. The competition is open to cartoons from around the world in the following categories: short films, full-length films, television series, single TV programs, special TV programs, educational, scientific or industrial films, advertising and promotional films, animated program titles or clips, Internet short films, Internet film series and student or graduating works. To commemorate the 200th birthday in 2005 of great Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen, a special "Andersen Fairy Tale Award" competition will be organized during the festival. 2004 Visual Arts Development Awards

The eighth annual Visual Arts Development Awards (VADA) assists British Columbia's emerging or mid-career visual artists and artisans. The initiative is to encourage the development of new skills and techniques. Grants range in size from $3,000 to $5,000. Last year 13 visual artists and artisans from across B.C. received awards. Their projects included: traveling to China to apprentice with a master ceramicist; learning underwater photography and exploring the loss of salmon in ancient fishing grounds; apprenticing with a tailor to learn costume making; and working with a mathematician to learn advanced systems of mathematics to generate patterns and manipulate results. BC visual artists and artisans from all cultures working in traditional or contemporary methods or mediums are eligible. VADA offers opportunities for non-institutional learning; to learn from a senior artist, mentor or elder; or a self-guided program. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of merit and quality of their proposals. Deadline for receipt of completed applications is Sunday May 30, 2004 at 5:00 pm. VADA was initiated and is funded by the Vancouver Foundation and is administered by the Contemporary Art Gallery. 2004 Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival

The Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival, now in it's 57th year, is the longest running festival of its kind in Canada. Over the years, the festival has garnered an esteemed reputation as one of the country's top film and video festivals; a reputation that attracts outstanding entries and personalities from across Canada. Established in 1947 as the Yorkton Film Council, the first festival was held in 1950, making it Canada's first Short Film & Video Festival. The very first Golden Sheaf Award was introduced in 1958 and was presented to the most outstanding film entry in the festival. The Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival has undergone many changes since the first festival and is now celebrating more than 56 years of great shorts and currently presents Golden Sheaf Awards in 17 genre categories, 10 craft awards categories, cash and specialty awards. 2005 Architectural Visualization Competition

CGARCHITECT.COM, the leading online magazine for architectural visualization artists, is hosting of the biggest online visualization competition in the CG industry -- 2005 Architectural Visualization Competition. The competition will start with an open call for entries. A panel of expert judges will select the top 30 entries to participate in the actual competition. With each challenge the field will be narrowed until the final three have been selected. What separates this challenge from the rest is the range of challenges that participants will be asked to compete in, and the individual critiques that each contestant will receive from the expert judges. The winner will be announced at the 4th Annual SIGGRAPH 2005 CGarchitect.com party in Los Angeles in August.

The competition is sponsored by the top software, hardware, and CG service providers in the industry, with prizes totaling more than $90,000 in value. The 12th Annual Austin Film Festival celebrates narrative and documentary films both in long and short form. The conference that accompanies the festival features panelists from the film industry who will discuss their experiences. First place winners receive: a cash prize of $1,000 (Feature Category) or $500 (Short and Student Short Categories); reimbursement (up to $500) of one round-trip airfare to Austin to attend the 2005 AFF; hotel accommodations at an AFF hotel (up to $500); a special Winners Night Screening at the Festival; the AFF Bronze Typewriter Award; and a special Los Angeles screening of their film for industry professionals.
