"Comic Book Idol 2" Art Contest

Starts: Jun 03, 2004 - Ends: Jul 08, 2004
Submission Deadline: May 27, 2004
Location: World Wide Web

"Comic Book Idol" is an amateur art competition hosted by CBR. The second edition will be hosted by J. Torres, author of the "Open Your Mouth" column at CBR (www.comicbookresources.com). It's a five-week, five-round contest in which contestants will be asked to complete an art assignment each week by a deadline. Their art will be posted in a CBR forum designed especially for judges to post comments on and critique said art, as well as for CBR readers to view and vote on their favorites. CBR fans select which contestants move on in subsequent rounds, and two artists will be eliminated from the competition in each round until we have the one and only "Comic Book Idol." The regular panel of judges for our second competition consists of Mike Carlin (senior group editor, DC Comics), Jeff Mariotte (editor-in-chief, IDW Publishing) and Eric Stephenson (managing editor, Image Comics). There will also be "surprise" comic creator guest judges to be announced, one per round, as the competition progresses. This year, all 10 of the contestants invited into the competition will receive a CBR T-Shirt, comic boards courtesy of BCEMylar.com and free passes to Comic-Con International San Diego 2004. The winner of Comic Book Idol will be given a pin-up assignment for an IDW publication to be selected by Jeff Mariotte based on the artist's interests and abilities, a short story assignment written by Eric Stephenson to be published in the forthcoming FOUR LETTER WORLDS anthology from Image Comics, Mike Carlin personally handing your art samples to editors at DC Comics for their review and consideration and airfare, accommodation and passes for Comic-Con International San Diego 2004. To enter, potential contestants must have samples of their work on a Website or online portfolio. Contestants must have the ability to scan in their artwork and post it online to participate, and should be prepared to draw everything from covers to actual comic pages. Contestants will be given approximately five days to complete each art assignment. The contest begins with an open call for submissions kicking off May 27, 2004. Those wishing to be considered for the five-round competition must post links to their work in the designated CBR "Comic Book Idol" forum. A selection committee consisting of five of last year's CBI contestants, including winner Patrick Scherberger, will visit all the links posted and choose 10 artists to face the judges and CBR readers. The first official round of competition starts June 3 and the event continues through till July 8 when the winner is officially announced. In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has put out a call for entries for "Into the Pixel," a juried exhibition of computer and videogame art to premiere at this year's E3. "Into the Pixel" is a celebration of videogame art curated by interactive entertainment industry art veterans and experts from the traditional art field. The exhibit is a joint project of E3Expo, The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, and The Graphic Arts Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The show will take place at the LACC and be accessible to the general public as well as to the more than 60,000 interactive entertainment industry executives, designers, developers, animators, journalists and retailers who attend E3Expo. Artists may contact pixelquestions@e3expo.com for more information. The Electronic Entertainment Expo held its inaugural show in 1995 with an impressive array of exhibitors and attendees. That show represented the first opportunity for everyone in the industry to meet in the same place, at the same time, at a show designed specifically to meet their business needs. It was the beginning of a thriving event where industry participants gathered to generate business and gain worldwide exposure. Ten years later, the Electronic Entertainment Expo has become the industry's most important annual gathering place. It's still the premier event for doing business with an ever-growing number of qualified industry players. In fact, because more commerce and promotion takes place here than during the other 51 weeks of the year combined, E3 is far and away the year's most concentrated gathering of qualified industry participants. More than 60,000 of the world's most influential retailers, distributors, developers, investors and media gather here for three days of intensive deal making. There's nothing else like it in the world. For more information, visit www.e3expo.com/.

Submission Deadline: Feb 10, 2006
Location: World Wide Web
Website: http://www.fluxtime.com/titan.php
Schools get ready for lift off... Mission to Titan starts in September! You are challenged to dream up and develop a story about your own mission to Titan. You can design your own spacecraft, build characters and crew members, create alien worlds and creatures, and tell the story of your mission in a short animation. The animation you create must not be longer than five minutes, so you have to think about how to tell your story in a comprehensive but concise way. You don't have to cover the whole journey in your animation, and can concentrate on an interesting episode if you prefer. The most important factor is that your story is imaginative and gripping, and that you manage to tell it in moving images which give us a glimpse of what it looked like and what happened to you on Titan. Completely Online: Pupils create artwork, collaborate and animate live in FluxTime Studio, the online animation environment for children from 4 to 14 years. Competition Terms: 1) The competition is for primary and secondary schools only. 2)Participating pupils must be 4 to 14 years old. 3) Schools can send in up to three animation clips per key stage. 4) A jury will select three winning animation clips per key stage. 5) Winners will receive one year free school membership. 6) The best animations will be shown in an online exhibition.
