Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival

The Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (SICAF), which is now firmly established as the biggest cartoon and animation festival in Korea, marks its 16th anniversary this year. Based on its main theme, "Paradise Filled with Heart-Throbbing Happiness," the SICAF 2012 offers visitors opportunities to enjoy a joyful journey while escaping the mundane routine of everyday life.

This year, in addition to COEX exhibition halls, the SICAF 2012 promotional pavilion will be set up in Palkak-Square at Namsan Park on Mt. Namsan where the Seoul Animation Center is located. The Mt. Namsan Pavilion will stage an animated film festival as well as providing information on SICAF events and also staging exciting accompanying events such as caricatures for visitors. The SICAF 2012 Exhibition will offer visitors an opportunity for rediscovery where one can experience cartoonist imagination, enjoyment, education and inspiration all at once through various cartoon and animation contents, educational and first-hand experience programs.

SICAF2012 Official Competition, one of the best Asian animated film festivals, had total entries of 1,362 outstanding films from 45 countries. Selected after the pre-selection held from 16 to 20 April, 152 films from 30 countries ― 5 feature films, 48 professional shorts, 42 student shorts, 28 TV films, 29 commissioned films ― will be presented to the International Jury and the audience at CGV(Myung Dong Yeok) & Seoul Ani-Cinema(Seoul Animation Center) from 18 to 22 July, along with the films invited to the Special Programs.

International Animation Festival Hiroshima

Hiroshima International Animation Festival was established in 1985, as a project commemorating the 40th anniversary of the atomic bombing. From the beginning, Hiroshima City and ASIFA shared a same idea, that is, to promote the international mutual understanding and to pursue eternal world peace through the development of animation art, which is a medium common to all human beings beyond nations and languages.

Hiroshima Festival is a comprehensive animation festival, featuring competition programs to choose the Grand Prix, Hiroshima Prize and other prizes out of many latest animation shorts submitted from around the world. The festival also offers many special programs including retrospectives of masters and talented filmmakers, feature animations, high quality student works, animations for peace, for children, as well as seminars, symposiums, workshops, exhibitions, and educational film market, etc. With its outstanding international programs and administration, the festival is highly recognized not only within animation field but also throughout the media art society.

Cartoon Forum

Then the Cartoon Forum is the place where you will spot the best brands and discover the latest trends in European animation. The Cartoon Forum is neither a fair nor a festival, but rather a European co-production forum for TV and new platform animation programmes. For three days each year, European producers have the opportunity to pitch their animation project in front of decision-makers, buyers and investors in order to speed up financing and find cross-border partners. The highly professional yet very friendly atmosphere makes it easier to consolidate commercial links, meet new contacts, and deal with all aspects of partnerships - whether commercial or artistic - at leisure. On average, one project presented at Cartoon Forum out of three secures financing and enters into production.

Roma Creative Contest - Short Film Festival wants to enhance young emerging directors and new technologies.

The first edition involved over two thousand spectators at the Victoria Theatre in Testaccio, recording a significant feedback from the media. The jury of cinema professionals was chaired byPupi Avati.

With its second edition 2012 the Festival wants to step forward and open the doors to the rest of the world, with a new international section, devoted to animated shorts.

The festival will be hosted by the Victoria Theatre (Piazza Santa Maria Liberatrice, 10- Rome) for four consecutive Sundays: 16-23-30 September and October 7, the closing night.

The competition is divided into three sections:
Images hunters, the main section, which accepts only fiction shorts, Animation, the international section; Mockumentaries, "fake documentary" feeding the doubt in the viewer that what he's seeing is real.

Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, one of the UK's leading showcases and meeting points for emerging talent, returns to Bristol's harbourside from 18-23 September 2012. The SDAF showcases unique independent animation from all over the world as well as commercial content from the region. The SoDak Fest also hosts special guest artists to share ideas and inspiration with the public audience. Animation workshops are also held for festival attendees and members of the community. For a visiting animator, the hospitality can't be beat.  Student work is especially emphasized to support animation education. Prizes are awarded in the form of the coveted "Golden Cowbell Award"!

J.J. Sedelmaier is already on-board as a 2012 special guest!  Past special guest artists include animators David Chai, Bill Plympton, Patrick Smith, filmmaker and animator PES, indie filmmaker Todd Rohal and Reid Thompson, creative director from Troika Design Group! 

The SDAF is operated by faculty, staff and student volunteers of South Dakota State University, The Animation Club of South Dakota State University and the surrounding community. SUbmission fees go toward the animator travel assistance fund.  The 2012 festival is sponsored by the Department of Visual Arts at South Dakota State University, Daktronics Inc., and The National Endowment for the Arts.

Universidad ORT Uruguay, organizer of FIA'12, is pleased to invite animators, producers and specially students and graduates of animation schools to present works to be selected for an exhibition and subsequent awarding between the 22nd and the 23rd October 2012 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

I wanted to share an event with you taking place in March of 2013. The Citrus Cel Animation Film Festival is running a competition called JUICED! This is a 24hr animation competition where teams are given a few texture assets and a theme, and they are given the task of creating an animated short in a mere 24hrs.

This is our second installment of JUICED!, and we would love to get some of you talented animators from the 11 second club to participate. You do not have to be present at the festival to participate and all animation can be done remotely, and submitted to the competitions sponsored YouSendit drop box.

Send us your short features, animations, trash movies, documentaries, music videos, etc. We bring everything on screen that is freaky, crafty, slick, hard-boiled, and witty! Anything is allowed - as long as it's short and cheap!

 

As a short film festival for low & no budget productions, ClipAward explicitly addresses independent filmmakers who make films without big money. Therefore, your submissions may not be produced within the scope of media studies and exceed 500€ per minute. The maximum length is 15 minutes. The shorts have to be subtitled in German or English.

 

The festival takes place from April 26th-28th, 2013 in the Mannheim Palace, Germany.
