The National Film Board of Canada has announced the creation of a short film competition for Yukon filmmakers, entitled Northern Sights. Modeled on film development programs in other regions, the competition is designed to encourage creative filmmaking in both the documentary and animation fields.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in the U.S., screening more than 200 films from 60+ countries to an audience of over 70,000. From ages 5 to 85, the festival brings together communities as diverse as the retired citizens of the desert, the young, hip industry crowd of Los Angeles and film aficionados from around the world. The festival also features cultural events, filmmaker tributes, industry seminars and an annual black-tie gala award presentation. DH Institute of Media Arts is currently accepting submissions for our January gallery exhibit. There will be two themed categories for submitted works. The first category, an anime character in a Valentine themed setting. The second category submission is for an original game character design. Works should be submitted on 8.5"x11" workspace, either mounted on a isplay board or matted frame.

WorldFest Houston 2004

Founded in August 1961, WorldFest is the third oldest competitive International film festival in North America. It gave first honors and awards to Spielberg, George Lucas, Randall Kleiser, Ridley Scott, Ang Lee, The Coen Brothers, Robert Rodriguez and many more. It screens 50-60 new features and around 100 new shorts, in 35mm and digital video DLP projection in a large commercial theater complex. The event provides great networking as more than 450 international filmmakers attend, and the general audience exceeds 25,000 at the 10-day event. INTERACTIVE DESIGN COMPETITION
Enter the most prestigious design competition for interactive media, the tenth annual Communication Arts Interactive Design Competition. Any interactive project created for digital distribution on the World Wide Web, CD-ROM, interactive kiosk or handheld device is eligible.

Selected by a nationally representative panel of distinguished programmers, interface designers and creative directors, the winning entries will be published in the September/October Interactive Annual of Communication Arts and on our web site. Seventy-five thousand copies will be distributed worldwide, assuring important exposure for the creators of these outstanding projects.

Peabody Awards

The 63rd Annual George Foster Peabody Awards recognize outstanding achievement and excellence in television, radio and Internet programming. More than 1,000 entries from 30 different counties are received annually including news reports, documentaries, entertainment shows, public service programs and children's programs -- although awards are given solely on merit, without regard to specific categories. Judging is done by the 15-member Peabody Board, which includes TV critics, television practitioners, and experts in culture and fine arts from around the world. The awards will be announced in April and presented during a May 17 luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, hosted by Katie Couric. Established in 1915, the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication has administered the Peabody Awards since its inception in 1939.
