Reaching out to the new generation of animators.
Whitespace Studio at Kingston University is holding a conference on animation and special effects, aimed at industry and educators. The event is being hosted by Shelly Page, European representative of DreamWorks skg, and will have representatives from many of the UK leading animation an post production companies, such as The Frame Store, The Moving Picture Company, Beryl Productions and Rushes.
We will be looking at where the next generation of animators will come from and what they will need, to get from here to there.
The agenda includes presentations, workshops, discussion panels and screenings by and for industry leaders and European educational institutions most interested in animation, and students, present and future.
The conference is being held in Kingston Upon Thames on the edge of London, close to the heart of the UK post production industry.

We welcome and encourage people to submit animations for the screenings.

The 6th edition of Cartoons on the Bay, International Festival and Conference on Television Animation, begins next week in Positano, Italy. Running April 18-22, 2002, Cartoons on the Bay reviews the current state of international animation and presents panels, premiere screenings and special guests. The festival includes the Pulcinella Awards, the showcase, the three intense days of the international conference on television animation, various special events and many movies and television premieres.

AWN's editor-in-chief Heather Kenyon will chair the panel "Focus on the Studios." Featuring one studio from Italy, one from Europe and one from the U.S., this section of the Conference allows the studios to present their technical, creative and production capabilities. The panelists are Iginio Straffi from Italy's Rainbow, Cosgrove Hall's managing director Iain Pelling and Pixar's Katherine Sarafian, production supervisor for MONSTERS, INC. 10th Annual Midwest Animators Conference

Sponsored by ASIFA Central, the conference features speakers who focus on various aspects of animation production. The emphasis for many of the presenters is the personal and artistic influences in their work. Another feature of the conference is screenings of various animations as well as open screenings for attendees to show their work. The winning student entry of the HVH World Peace Storyboard and Animation Competition is screened and the new winner is announced. The event is a great opportunity to meet kindred spirits, renew old acquaintances, make new contacts and recharge the creative batteries. The atmosphere is low-key and laid-back.

Advance registration is between October 1 and March 2. General admission is $75, $55 for students, and $50 for ASIFA members. Late registration is from March 2 through April 15. On-site registration is available based on availability. Lodging is seperate from the cost of admission.

On-site lodging is $99 per night for single to triple occupancy and $109 for four. Rooms are all suites with living room and kitchenette. Amenities include pool, fitness center, lounge and restaurants. Other lodging choices are available near the conference site. The conference is near major highways and airport. County forest preserves and the renowned Morton Arboretum are nearby.

Martha will be quizzed by Jerry Beck, and egged on by Sol Sigall, to recount some of the history of Warner Brothers animation department during the years when it was putting out some of its best work, and the Strike that changed the structure of the animation business. Join us for a really fun afternoon!

The lunch will be held at Shakers Resturant, 801. N. Central, Glendale, just North of the 134 on Saturday, April 27 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Only $15 per person. Limited Seating, RSVP Essential. Reservation cut off date is April 25.
