The goal of the ACAG 2006 conference is to provide an international forum for presenting recent research on the emerging cultural markets in China and the Asian countries and to investigate the transnational issues of Asian cultural products, focusing on comics,animation and digital games in relation with the global world. The purpose of the conference is to promote scholarship and intellectual engagement between academics and cultural production professionals on the conference themes and topics from various backgrounds. This conference will be held from May 18th to May 19th, 2006 at York University in Toronto, Canada. Papers that explore critical, philosophical and creative issues on Asian comics, animation, and digital games by drawing on the methodological and conceptual knowledge from a variety of disciplines are invited. The deadline for receiving abstracts is January 15, 2005. Each abstract should be no longer than 200 words. Please include the title (and subtitle if applicable), name(s) of the author(s), affiliations, mailing address(es), email address(es), two or three keywords that describe the submission. Initial submission should be in form of a word document attached to an email and submitted electronically to acag-ycar@yorku.ca with the subject heading 'ACAG abstract submission.' Now in its 30th year, the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF 06) is the premiere animation festival in North America. Independent, commercial, and student animators working in a variety of media submit their work, under eight umbrella categories; including independent short films, feature films, new media, music videos, commercials, TV shows, student films, films for children, and a new addition this year, TELETOON Canadian Student Animation Scholarship. To help celebrate its 30th anniversary, before each screening OIAF 06 will screen a signal film from a past Ottawa festival. In addition to the competition and non-competitive Showcase screenings, OIAF 06 will include Warner Bros. animation legend Bob Clampett, Italian master Bruno Bozzeto (Allegro Non Troppo), celebrated Russian Animator Konstantin Bronzit, New York experimental artist Jeff Scher, a selection of Bravo!Fact's best animation shorts, and Toon Town: a special celebration of animation produced in Canada's Capital City. Ai-Kon 2006

Ai-Kon is Manitoba's largest anime convention. An all-ages event, the goal of Ai-Kon is the promotion of Japanese/Asian animation and culture to the public. In 2005 approximately 960 people attended Ai-Kon, and organizers anticipate attendance numbers of 1,000 to 1,200 for this year's convention. Started by the University of Manitoba Japanese Animation Club (UMAnime) in 2001, Ai-Kon took a re-organizational hiatus in 2002, returning in 2003. Ai-Kon has since become an autonomous event, run by an independent volunteer board. "Ai" means "love" in Japanese, hence Ai-Kon's slogan "For the Love of Anime."
