CARTOON MOVIEMarch 7th-9th 2012 - Lyon (Rhône-Alpes, France)

Cartoon Movie is neither a fair nor a festival, but rather a co-production forum for European animated feature films. The concept is original and effective: for two intense days in March each year, European producers have the unique opportunity to pitch their animation projects to about 700 professionals in order to negotiate financing, find partners and interest distributors.

A special feature of Cartoon Movie is that it is possible to present projects at their different stages: projects in concept, projects in development, films in production, and completed films. Consequently, it is the whole industrial and economic network that takes part in the development of the film, which increases tenfold the producer’s opportunities for success.

A convivial atmosphere ideal for networking

Screening of trailers, pitching of projects, film screenings, business meetings, but also a welcome reception, nice relaxed dinners, a farewell party… all this is part of the convivial Cartoon Movie atmosphere.

156 films financed for 1.2 billion EUR

Started in 1999 with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, Cartoon Movie was established to increase the number of co-productions and cross-border cooperations, to speed up the financing and the production process, as well as to ensure a pan-European and international distribution of the films.
The results are considerable. Since its creation, more than 156 films have secured financing, representing a total budget of 1.2 billion EUR.

Six years ago with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, CARTOON initiated Cartoon Movie to establish a synergy between distributors, investors and producers and thus accelerate the financing and distribution process of animated features in Europe. Cartoon Movie was designed along the lines of the successful Cartoon Forum, which aims at facilitating the financing of animation TV series. But Cartoon Movie also offers improvements in the management of cross border film distribution systems in Europe. Distributors in Europe so far did not feel very comfortable about producing projects that did not originate from their own country. Cartoon Movie will eventually change the behavior paterns and the mentalities within this business sector. Cartoon Movie is neither a fair nor a festival, but rather a co-production forum where European producers can negotiate the financing of their feature-length projects and provide support to international cooperation. Cartoon Movie combines the trailer presentations, business meetings and screenings with opportunities for socializing. For more information, visit www.cartoon-media.be/.
