This one-day intensive workshop, presented by the Toronto Animated Image Society, is designed as a broad introduction for those interested in starting their own business and/or selling your skills as a freelancer. It will explain how to deal with GST, PST, legal registration, licensing, zoning and bylaws. Emphasis will be placed on saving money on taxes, getting organized, tapping into various consultants and government help centers. This workshop is especially useful for anyone interested in setting up their own film production company or planning a film shoot. Speaker Christine Whitlock is a writer/producer/director who has also been teaching business courses since 1981. She has two businesses that do consulting, write scripts, publish books and create events. She belongs to the Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville Chambers of Commerce. The price of the workshop is $25 for TAIS members and $35 for the public. The event will begin at 11:00 am and go until 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break. Learn to use FLASH beyond the confines of FLASH!



Max the Mutt Animation School will be offering a eight-week FLASH intensive to experienced animators and animation professionals. This course offers exceptional instruction and is being offered at a very affordable rate.





The course will cover:



1. Breaking the confines of traditional Flash internet animation: techniques and methodology.

2. Vectoring and colouring techniques for high-res images

3. Preping artwork for use in Flash

4. When to use Flash automation in place of traditional tweening

5. Using Flash as a multiplane animation stand.

6. Converting Flash to a video output format.



Pre-requisite: Classical animation training or equivalent work experience.





Instructor: Haig Bedrossian is a classical animator with over 15 years of professional experience. He is fully versed in 3D computer animation and has extensive software knowledge. Haig worked as a character animator for Disney and has created numerous animated shorts including The Fragile for the Nine Inch Nails.

WIA-Canada

The Canadian chapter of Women in Animation (WIA - Canada) will host its first annual animation & games career fair. Potential applicants will gather for a unique opportunity to hear from and meet leading studios from around Vancouver. Recruiting teams will include top Vancouver companies such as aka Cartoon, Atomic Cartoons, Bardel Ent., Electronic Arts, Mainframe Ent., National Film Board of Canada (NFB), Nerd Corps, Radical Ent. and Studio B Prods.

Studios will have up to 10 minutes each to present their companies and describe what they are looking for in potential applicants. Once each studio has finished their presentations students/applicants will break out into pre-assigned groups and begin a group interview rotation among the studios. Each studio will see six groups through the course of the evening; each group will consist of six students/applicants. The group interview rotation will begin around 7:30 and wrap up around 9:00 pm.

Students/applicants will be able to pre-register for the rotating interviews by e-mailing a list of companies (in order of preference) that they would like to meet with to wiacareerfair.registration@telus.net. Confirmation of your registration will be given by return email. The deadline for pre-registration is 6:00 pm on Feb. 18. A maximum of six companies will be assigned on a first come first served basis. Meeting with specific companies cannot be guaranteed due to limited seating.
