The DIY Convention will present an afternoon of panels, speeches and spotlighted discussions at the Belcourt Theatre, located at 2102 Belcourt Avenue. This one-day intensive workshop, presented by the Toronto Animated Image Society, is designed as a broad introduction for those interested in starting their own business and/or selling your skills as a freelancer. It will explain how to deal with GST, PST, legal registration, licensing, zoning and bylaws. Emphasis will be placed on saving money on taxes, getting organized, tapping into various consultants and government help centers. This workshop is especially useful for anyone interested in setting up their own film production company or planning a film shoot. Speaker Christine Whitlock is a writer/producer/director who has also been teaching business courses since 1981. She has two businesses that do consulting, write scripts, publish books and create events. She belongs to the Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville Chambers of Commerce. The price of the workshop is $25 for TAIS members and $35 for the public. The event will begin at 11:00 am and go until 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break.
