"Writing the Original Screenplay" Masters Seminar

The Writers Guild Foundation has announced its annual summer screenwriting seminar to be held at the Writers Guild headquarters in Hollywood. Scheduled is a special one-day Masters Workshop on the subject of "Writing the Original Screenplay," featuring some of the industry's leading names in screenwriting. Screenwriters scheduled to speak thus far include: Naomi Foner (RUNNING ON EMPTY), Amy Holden Jones (INDECENT PROPOSAL), Dale Launer (MY COUSIN VINNY), Daniel Petrie, Jr. (BEVERLY HILLS COP), Howard Rodman (JOE GOULD'S SECRET), Eric Roth (FORREST GUMP), Tom Schulman (DEAD POETS SOCIETY), Ron Shelton (BULL DURHAM), Audrey Wells (UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN) and Mike White (SCHOOL OF ROCK). Members of Hollywood's executive suites appearing include Mikkel Bondesen of Bondsen-Graup Mgt. (THE O.C.), Maggie Field of Field-Cech Agency, Jenny Fritz of Broder Webb Chervin Silberman Agency, Tarquin Gotch, formerly of John Hughes Ent. (HOME ALONE) and Anne Rodman of Phoenix Pictures (HOLES). Opening and closing panels will take place in the Writers Guild's 120-seat Multi-purpose Room, supplemented by smaller intensive workshops. Topics include: invention and reinvention, a saleable premise, character and action, raising the dramatic stakes, revisions and rewriting, and the always enigmatic getting it made. The sessions will run all day, 9:30 a.m.
