The Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical Achievements ceremony celebrates the technical advancements and achievement of the film industry. The Academy's Board of Governors votes on the award recipients based upon recommendations from the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee. A statuette for merit plus plaques for scientific and engineering as well as certificates for technical achievement are handed out during the black-tie gala.
