Gnomon Workshop DVD Releases

The Gnomon Workshop released two new titles this week on their Creative Production Pipeline covering character design and matte painting.

Artists Thierry Doizon (aka BARONTiERi) and Sebastien Larroude (aka Rainart) reveal their techniques using a myriad of tools including PhotoShop, Maya, ZBrush and Fusion.

The two new titles delve into the broad expanse of the creative process, from getting creative, researching, working as a team all the way through lighting effects and color correction.

Pixar Animation Studios filmmaker Pete Docter (MONSTERS, INC.), joined onstage by animators from ILM, Pixar Animation Studios and DreamWorks/PDI, all of whom teach at the school, delivered the inspirational commencement address. Mocap Studio Opens at UCF

Vicon Ent.'s Los Angeles-based House of Moves has launched a new state-of-the art motion-capture studio at the University of Central Florida on the grounds of the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy, UCF's graduate video-game development school. The 3,500-square-foot studio, one of the largest on the East Coast, is described by House of Moves executives as a "world-class facility" for industry professionals and academia.

NVIDIA Quadro Powers Vegan Zombie Short at Dave School

TOFU, THE VEGAN ZOMBIE, an animated student short made at The Dave School (Digital Animation & Visual Effects) at Universal Studios, Florida, was aided by NVIDIA Quadro graphics boards to accelerate the production process. Modeling and rendering for TOFU was done with LightWave 3D and compositing was done with Digital Fusion, both OpenGL applications that make heavy use of the NVIDIA graphics boards.
