Okay, all that verbiage should indicate one thing: this series is smart, or at least tries to be. Overall, I like it. I like it a lot. The darkness of Ergo Proxy’s canvass, the moodiness of its city, and the detached citizens invokes Blade Runner-esque trappings that are a true anime/sci-fi delight.

At any rate, I enjoyed this film. I wasn’t jumping on the couch like Tom Cruise. But the supernatural essence inherent in nature’s beauty is successfully laid bare in this live-action version of Mushi-Shi. Otaku everywhere should be pleased with the adaptation.

Big Windup gets points for just being itself. So much anime being licensed in the US seems defined by supernatural high school students charged with killing ghosts or man-eating beasts.
