Walk Cycle Help

Hello everyone.

I am an illustration major who wants to be an animator. Since good drawing is the basis for proper animation, I’m hoping that this will make the transition slightly easier. My school does not offer animation, but I’ve been studying the Animator’s Survival Kit until I can find/ afford a school that does. It’s a very informative book, and it’s as easy to understand as it is fascinating to read. However, I definitely need some outside help from people who have knowledge and experience.

I’m trying to animate a basic walk cycle, but it does not look right. It looks less like walking and more like slipping on ice. This is about the third or fourth time I’ve tried this, and I want to make a cycle as good as it can be. How can I make the next few tries better? Would making the figure a little less like a blob and a little more like a man make the process easier or harder to learn? Should I observe the way people walk a few more times before trying this again? Should I not use that Photoshop animation window and go for actual animation software? All advice is good advice. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Have you have been intraduced

Have you have been introduced to arcs?

Sort of. Some other people

Sort of. Some other people gave me advice and I'm going to try their ideas out now. However, could you explain how to use arcs? I understand what they are and what they do, but I don't understand how to apply them if that makes any sense.
