Animators using pen display monitors - User experiences

Hello AWN Forum,

I've been thinkng about purchasing a Cintiq 13hd or something similar and wonder if anyone has comments or input about this kind of monitor for use in 2d animation?

I'm looking for a way of capturing some pencil on paper sketching efficiency. I've used a Samsung One Note Tablet with various art apps but found the lag in response time between stylus movement and rendering the stroke to be a frustration.

I'm currently working on an older CPU, 2.4gHz duo-core processor and 3.5 GB Ram.

Can anyone provide some tips as to what can be expected when using one of these monitors?

Thanks in advance!

If you have enough RAM and a good graphics card, using a CINTIQ is as intutive and natural as drawing on paper with a pencil.  You can literally plug the monitor in, get the drivers going and then go right to drawing in whatever program you like to use.
The feature of pen sensitivity alone gives a CINTIQ-type pen tool  the ability to produce a line indistinguishable from pencil or pens on paper.

I was a long-time holdout against going digital with a CINTIQ, I held off until 2010 when I pretty much needed to jump on the wagon.  I literally bought a CINTIQ in the morning, set it up and got it working just after lunch and then went right to it meeting a deadline for the rest of that day. It's THAT intuitive to allow that kind of speedy transition.
I still don't fully trust computer tools, but using a CINTIQ has made my transition into digital work enormously easier.
