WORKSHOPS

WORKSHOPS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE Also, within CINANIMA’s activities, there will be an animation workshop for children of the preparatory schools, from the 23rd October to the 5th November. Under the orientation of Fernando Saraiva (responsible for Anilupa — Associação de Ludotecas do Porto and director), Isabel Couto and Belmiro Carvalho (art teachers and co-ordinators of CINANIMA’s Permanent Animation Workshop). These young people will be invited to direct an experimental animation film, with the use of different techniques and methods. This workshop will have as the main purpose the experiencing of the animated image, using sound games, produced by the participants through the use of waste materials (metal, plastic, etc). This experience and recording of the sound environment will be the starting point for the making of the film. On a second phasis there will be the reproduction, to paper, of the images from the feelings that the youngsters have had during the experiences, in an attempt to relate sound and image. This game of images, organised after on a story board, will enable the experiencing of diverse animation techniques, arising the creative and inventive interest of the participants in the workshop. The film will be shown in the Awards Ceremony — CINANIMA 2000 — on the 11th November 2000 (Saturday), at 10 o’clock in the evening, in the Centro Multimeios. MACKINNON & SAUNDERS AND PUPPET MAKING CINANIMA 2000 promotes, this year, foloowing previous years examples, an animation workshop. This year it is dedicated to professionals. The workshop will beblead by two members of this prestiged British enterprise, Mackinnon & Saunders, responsible for a large part of the puppets and special effects of famous films, namely "Mars Attacks" directed by Tim Burton. These workshops will take place on the 7th and 8th November, within the activities of the 24th ediiton of the International Animated Film Festival, with the sponsorship of Telecel. The theme is the construction of Articulated Puppets for animation films. Its purpose is to show and explain the process of making the puppets: drawing and character conception, models and mould making, interior armatures, painting. These workshops will have a practical component, where each participant will have the opportunity to build his own model, having an example that will can be used as comparison, and that shows all the different steps taken to build apuppet. At the end, the puppets will be exhibited to the audience, during CINANIMA, in the Centro Multimeios.
