Senior Thesis work from students of the Computer Art department of The
School of Visual Arts will be exhibited in the Westside Gallery at 141 West
21st Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. The exhibit includes computer
animation, digital video, interactive media, digital fine art, and
installations. A Portfolio Night and reception will be held May 6, and the

Careers in Animation lecture series

Andreas Wessel-Therborn, animator, will speak on The Animator on Animating as part of The Careers in Animation Third Annual Lecture Series. Mr. Wessel-Therborn has worked on THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER, SPACE JAM, BALTO, TARZAN, and FANTASIA 2000. KIRIKOU at the DGA

Michel Ocelot's new feature film, KIRIKOU AND THE SORCERESS, will be
screened as part of the DGA (Directors Guild of America) film festival,
City of Lights: A Week of French Films. The screening will take place
Saturday, May 1 at 1 pm in Los Angeles, California. For ticket information,

A selection of personal paintings and production pieces from the collection of UPA artist and experimental animator Jules Engel will be exhibited at the Tobey Moss Gallery (7321 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036) through April 24. Also included in the exhibit are his sculptures and paintings from Disney's FANTASIA. Phil Mendez speaks at ASIFA-Hollywood

Tom Sito will host an evening with Phil Mendez on Wednesday, April 28 at
7:30 pm. Phil is one of the pioneering African American artists in American
animation, a designer, author, director and storyteller. He was Marc Davis'
assistant at Disney during the development of some of the his famous
attractions at Disneyland. He has done work for Disney Feature Animation,
Hanna-Barbera, Jack Zander, and Phil Kimmelman, and he was with Ralph

SF ACM/SIGGRAPH sponsors a presentation on animating paintings in WHAT
DREAMS MAY COME. Scheduled speakers include Nicholas Brooks, Visual Effects
Director; Ed Davis, Lunarfish; Mike Schmitt, Giant Killer Robots; Laura
Kelly, LA-based effects team member; Pierre Jamin and Peter Litwinowicz of
