WIA Writers Group presents Lydia Marano

The Women In Animation Writers Group presents guest speaker Lydia Marano,
whose credits include GARGOYLES, SPIDER-MAN, PHANTOM 2040, CONAN AND THE

Women In Animation presents a program of shorts by women

Women In Animation Shorts Fest I is a showcase for short animated films
made by Women In Animation members and other filmmakers from around the
world. This evening's program includes films by Suzanne Franzel (Germany),
Jaime Levy (USA), and Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis (Canada). It takes
place Friday, September 10, 7 pm at Santa Monica, California, USA.at Santa
Monica College, Academy of Entertainment and Technology, 1440 Stewart
Street, (by Olympic and 26th). Admission is free and open to the public.

Matt Groening, creator of THE SIMPSONS and FUTURAMA, will speak at the 1999
Portland Creative Conference. He will join Eugenio Zanetti, production
designer for WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, Disney producer Don Hahn, and nationally
syndicated cartoonist John Callahan. The Conference includes speaker
presentations, panel discussions, sneak preview film screenings, an opening
night kick-off celebration, and a closing night wrap party, and runs
September 16 through 18 at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. The

Scooby-Doo makes appearance at Storyopolis

Bring the family to meet Scooby-Doo and investigate the arts while
listening to music at Beverly Hills children's bookstore, Storyopolis.

Meet Maurice Noble!

Noble is responsible for the great backgrounds of the Road Runner cartoons,
DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24 1/2 CENTURY, DUCK AMUCK, WHAT'S OPERA, DOC?, etc.
(He is also credited as co-director with Chuck Jones on several late Warner
Bros. shorts, including the odd NOW HEAR THIS!) Between screenings of the
