From synthetic worlds and post-apocalyptic futures to human labs and digitally stimulated plants, BioLogic: A Natural History of Digital Life takes both a serious and playful look at what happens when nature and technology combine. This juried exhibition showcases recent projects by eleven artists representing ten countries. All of the projects are kinetic, most are interactive, and many are large installations that immerse the viewer in fantastic environments of quivering tendrils, singing strands of hair, and fuzzy, cloud-like surfaces that respond when stroked.

MPC To Reveal Watchmen Secrets in Vancouver

Ben Cole, Landon Bootsma, Tim Mulvihill and Harry Mukhopadhyay will explore how the MPC Vancouver team helped to recreate one of the most acclaimed comic books in history, revealing the challenges they faced in assembling some of the more complex scenes and answering questions surrounding the diverse techniques used at the studio. The event, organized by SIGGRAPH, takes place; Wednesday June 17, 7:30 PM at the Vancity Theatre, 1181 Seymour Street (@ Davie). A similar presentation will take place at SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans.

SIGGRAPH 2009 Technical Papers Focus on Technology and Advanced Techniques

The SIGGRAPH 2009 Technical Papers program is the premier global forum presenting groundbreaking research from today's leading international organizations. Topics will feature the latest computer graphic innovations from a detailed simulation of intrusive surgical procedures to the development of infra-red flash photography. A total of 439 submissions were reviewed by a distinguished panel of 54 jurors, and 78 papers were selected for presentation at SIGGRAPH 2009.

SIGGRAPH is just around the corner and Autodesk is seeking fresh and exciting new work for its Best of the Best Animation Show Reel, which will be showcased during SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans, LA from August 4-6.

Anything from video game cinematics, short films, feature films, commercials, broadcast design, music videos, or episodic projects created with 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, MotionBuilder, Toxik or Mudbox is welcome.

(Chicago, IL) - SIGGRAPH 2009's Emerging Technologies presents innovative technologies and applications in many fields including alternative displays, robotics, input interfaces, gaming, audio, haptics/VR, and experimental sensory experiences.

Presented in a combination of curated demonstrations and juried interactive installations, a minimum of 29 of the more than 100 international juried submissions were selected and will be on display and available for interaction with attendees in New Orleans this summer.

SIGGRAPH Selects Computer Animation Fest Nominees

SIGGRAPH announces the selection of award nominees for the SIGGRAPH 2009 Computer Animation Festival to be held in New Orleans this August. Nominees were chosen from 770 submissions from around the globe, presented by both professional studios and students alike. In all, more than 140 films will be shown during the Computer Animation Festival. The award winners will be announced during the conference.
