AWN will be publishing four special MIPCOM newsletters, in Acrobat format, that will be emailed to all subscribers of the Animation Flash and AWN Spotlight. The first edition will arrived Wednesday, September 24, 2003 and it will continue every Wednesday until October 8. We still want your news related to MIPCOM, so that you won't be left out. Anime Network MIPCOM Bound to Shop

Anime Network, the first dedicated anime network in the U.S., plans to acquire more anime programming for its growing digital network at the upcoming MIPCOM market in Cannes, October 10-14, 2003.

“With the diversity of programming available at MIPCOM, we expect to discover new sources for content which we can then bring back and introduce to American viewers, ” said Anime Network president Kevin Corcora. “We’re also anxious to meet and explore other opportunities for our sister companies, including ADV Films and NewType USA.”

What's Happening at SIGGRAPH 2003?

This year's SIGGRAPH is expected to draw more than 25,000 computer graphics and interactive technology professionals and 200 exhibitors at the San Diego Convention Center, July 27-31, 2003. The conference (Sunday through Thursday) includes a July 28 keynote address, "Modeling the Cosmos: The Shape of the Universe," by Cambridge University astrophysicist Anthony Lasenby (8:00-9:45 am, Room 20A-C).

MIPCOM Breaks Up The Week With New Dates

MIPCOM, the biggest international TV trade show in Cannes, will run from Friday through Tuesday, October 10-14, 2003 while the 11th kids programming mini-market, MIPCOM Junior, Youth Programs Screenings, will run October 8-9 at the Hotel Martinez. The shows normally run Saturday through Friday. This change is due to the unavailability of the convention center, the Palais des Festival, together with public holidays.

Nelvana Closes Mipcom With Strong Sales

Corus Entertainment's Nelvana put the wrap on MIPCOM 2002 with a number of new sales and renewals for its kids' brands and programs. BEYBLADE continued to be a popular property for the company and was snapped up by the UK's terrestrial broadcaster Five TV (formerly Channel 5), which licensed 51 episodes of the series for debut in November 2002. BEYBLADE currently airs in the UK on Cartoon Network UK. Nelvana also completed video and DVD deals for BEYBLADE and MEDABOTS in the UK with Contender Entertainment Group, which set the titles for a release date of December 2, 2002.

Sunwoo Gets Buggy For Bookashkis

Sunwoo Entertainment USA plans to turn BOOKASHKIS, Mikhail Aldashin's award-winning short film about insects, into a series. At MIPCOM 2002, the Korean-based studio finalized an agreement with Aldashin and producer Chuck Swenson to develop and create a 52 x 11-minute animated series featuring the trio of bugs. Sasha, Simmons and Shmutz are the BOOKASHKIS, tiny insects living in the big city. They have their work cut out for them trying to stay alive in an apartment inhabited by a rotating set of human beings, all of whom seem hell-bent on the bugs' ultimate destruction.
