Amalfi, originally a Roman city, was the first Maritime Republic in Italy. After the fall og the Roman Empire it was the first Italian city to re-estabilish relationships between East and West by importing merchandise such us carpets, coffee and paper. Amalfi is a quiet and picturesque seaside resort with a temperate climate and incomparable natural beauties.
Ravello is a small and ancient city overlooking the clear blue sea og the Gulf of Salerno, on a natural balcony formed by a ranged og hills. The beauty of the surrounding area has inspired various poets, painters and musicians during its long history. Wagner, for example stayed here, and was inspired by the charms of the Villa Rufolo.
Salerno, almost in the centre of the arching gulf which is named after the city, allows industrious activity to co-exist with the memory of and respect for the past. It possesses a magnificent promenade, attractive narrow streets in the city centre and importan and ancient buildings such as the Cathedral.
