New Deals Signed For Preschool Piggy Pals

National Geographic Television International finalized a raft of key new sales for its preschool animated series TOOT & PUDDLE (52 x 11), launched at MIPCOM in 2008.

Recent deals have been finalised with France 5, Cartoon Network Spain, SVT Sweden, TVB Hong Kong, RUV Iceland and Egyptian TV. These new sales join those made previously, which include Nickelodeon in the U.K., Germany, Australia and New Zealand, YLE Finland and TV2 Norway.

BBC Commissions Indie to make Kids Comedy Show

New independent production company, Everything Works, has been commissioned by Anne Gilchrist, Controller of CBBC to produce its first ever show.

Premiering on CBBC and BBC1 on March 30, the comedy show sees crazy animated monsters interacting with the real world in a series of 20 x 2 minute sketches.

STREET MONSTERS is a comedy sketch show with a difference. It stars an outrageous cast of monsters who wreak havoc on live-action streets. It's laugh-out-loud funny, silly, edgy, chaotic and totally and utterly unique.

D3Publisher Signs Videogame Agreement for The Secret Saturdays

D3Publisher has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Cartoon Network Enterprises, the global licensing and merchandising arm of the network, for videogames based on action-adventure series THE SECRET SATURDAYS. The first game based on THE SECRET SATURDAYS is scheduled to be released for console and handheld systems in Q4 2009.

Cartoon Network Unveils 19 New Projects, Including Peter Chung Feature

At its upfront, Cartoon Network unveiled 19 new programming ventures, including three new action-adventure and four new comedy animated series; six live-action "alternative" half-hour series; three original live-action and one CG-animated movie special; and two hour-long original, scripted live-action pilots. Matt's Monsters Announces New Sales, Annecy Selection

Alphanim's new 52x13 series MATT'S MONSTERS has secured new broadcasts of the series with Cartoon Network in Asia, RTP in Portugal and Noga Communications in Israel.

Imira Consolidates Lola & Virginia Presence in Iberia

Imira Ent. has strengthened the presence of its hit property LOLA & VIRGINIA in Spain and Portugal with a series of renewals and new broadcast deals. In Spain, TVE has renewed the pay TV rights for a further two years and will continue to air the series on its main channel La 2 and Clan TV. In a separate deal, Nickelodeon has acquired pay TV rights for Spain and Portugal.

Family Guy Creators Win Suit Against Wish Upon a Star Publisher

A U.S. judge ruled Monday that FAMILY GUY creator Seth MacFarlane and producers did not infringe copyright laws when they parodied "When You Wish Upon a Star" in a 2003 episode, REUTERS reports.

Music publisher Bourne Co., who owns the U.S. rights to the song made famous in the Disney animated feature PINOCCHIO, sued Fox Broadcasting Co. in 2007 for copyright breach, saying the show's parody "I Need a Jew" was a thinly-veiled copy of the music from " When You Wish Upon a Star," just with "new anti-Semitic lyrics" that did damage to the original.

Kalamazoo Cartoon-Creating Competitors Set

Ten teams from animation programs spanning North America will engage in a "24/4" cartoon-creating competition prior to the start of the fifth Kalamazoo Animation Festival International (KAFI) scheduled for May 14-17 in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan.
