Production has commenced on BEN 10: ALIEN SWARM, a new live-action movie based on the hit animated series BEN 10 ALIEN FORCE that will premiere on Cartoon Network in fall 2009. The live-action movie will have principal photography in Atlanta, Georgia.

Headline News Kalamazoo Cartoon-Creating Competitors Set

Ten teams from animation programs spanning North America will engage in a "24/4" cartoon-creating competition prior to the start of the fifth Kalamazoo Animation Festival International (KAFI) scheduled for May 14-17 in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Earning spots in the competition for the 2009 "Cartoon Challenge" are four- and five-person teams from:

-- San Jose State University in California.-- College for Creative Studies in Detroit.-- Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia.-- South Dakota State University.

Headline News VFX Supervisor Brevig to Help Yogi Bear Steal Picnic Baskets

Longtime VFX Supervisor Eric Brevig has been hired by Warner Bros. to direct the 3-D CG/live action YOGI BEAR film, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon was originally set to be a 2-D film and had SURF'S UP director Ash Brannon attached. Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia will write the screenplay. Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt will produce with Jon Berg overseeing for WB.

Headline News New Sales for Franny's Feet

DECODE Enterprises, the distribution subsidiary of DHX Media, has scored further deals for its property FRANNY'S FEET (52x22 or 104x11) including sales into new territories.

Disney Channel U.K. has licensed season three and renewed its commitment to the first two seasons. In addition, Italy's RAI has picked up all three seasons with RTV Slovenia renewing season one and TV3 Catalunya in Spain and IRIB in Iran acquiring seasons one and two. The deal with RAI was brokered through Gary Kallenbach.

Activision Publishing and Corus Ent.'s Nelvana Enterprises will develop and distribute video games based on the toy and action animated television series BAKUGAN. The first BAKUGAN game will be released for Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 in fall 2009.

Electronic Arts is developing Hasbro's G.I. JOE brand to all major console and handheld gaming platforms in summer 2009 to coincide with the theatrical release of the G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA live-action movie from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, which opens in theaters August 7, 2009.
