Fondazione Umbria Spettacolo together with the Region of Umbria, announce the eighth edition of Cartoombria - International New Animated Images Exhibition. Cartoombria 2002 will take place in Perugia on December 11, 12 and 13 is rich in number of conferences, webjam, audio-visual performances, 2D and 3D web animation productions, exhibitions, previews, trailers, visual effects, mixmedia shorts, videogame movies, ads, music videos and first films. The seventeenth century "Santa Cecilia" Auditorium and the elegant eighteenth century "Teatro del Pavone", both located in the historic centre of Perugia, home the 3-day event. Nowadays people say they have seen and heard everything. But for those never satisfied, open to innovation, experimentation, research and updating, or for the simple surfers and curious persons, Cartoombria 2002 presents a richer and more well-constructed programme than last edition: creations exploring new forms of multimedia entertainment based on animated images and their making and webcasting streaming in "real time", on the border between contemporary electronic music and drum and bass, audiovisual performances, motion graphics and music videos, all framed in two historic venues. Animutations are expanding in the new media language and digital animation is already the motion picture of the future that will propagate in the upcoming interactive show available through the Net, where Flash productions, realised in three days by young Umbrian animators, will be on line: this witnesses that digital is and will be the reality for the future of "smart people". That's why Cartoombria.com has migrated in a pilot multimedia portal: the interface continuously updated in view of a future platform including The International Animation Exhibition's permanent activities. WEBJAM During the three day exhibition of Cartoombria a collective and coordinated Webjam is holding by Promovideo-Multimedia & Communications of Perugia, coordinated by Fabrizio Rebagliati and Leonardo Sala from Gomma Animedia. The creative Flash laboratory for young animators has an experimental and formative value. The participants will be selected and will also realize the animations presented during the closing evening of Cartoombria festival at Pavone Theatre and simultaneously shown on www.cartoombria.com new portal publishing day by day the work in progress. PORTAL Furthermore starting this year, Cartoombria will develop an Internet site Cartoombria.com that will become a Multimedia Portal presenting also in Flash cutting-edge productions and real-time performances, acted by musicians and computer artists, that will be diffused in live webcasting. The portal will also include the annual web animation on-line guide extended to web design and web art; thematic sections will supplement updated news. This new editorial line will draw up in 2003 a permanent multi media programme. ANIMUTATIONS With the beginning of a new millenium the the cult of image and the way of telling things are completely changing in a costant evolution thanks to the extraordinary global diffusion of Internet: the design stays but always moving and with a huge and new incision. In Italy the phenomenon of a new creativity, for animated cartoons on web, has been analysed with a special attention by Cartoombria. To the web animation (called by Cartoombria "Animutations" mutation of animated images -) there is an updating every year curated by Ferruccio Giromini.
