HypeFest has unveiled its Screenplay Competition. The festival is now accepting original short film screenplays (length 1-60 pages). Entrants must send a completed, signed entry form with each submission, which is available online at www.hypefest.com. Screenplays must not have been previously optioned, purchased, or produced. Prizes will be provided by The Writer's Store in Los Angeles. The entry fee is $25.

The International 3D Awards returns for its second year, with the ceremony to be held May 5, 2004 at the 3D Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark. The 2nd annual International 3D Awards is now calling for entries.
Awards will be given in the following categories:- Feature Film Visual Effects- Animated Feature Film- Television Visual Effects- Commercials- Music Videos- Short Films- Logos and Idents- 3D Game of the Year- Game Cinematics (non-interactive)- Technological Innovation
HypeFest's early entry deadline has been extended to Feb. 16, 2004. The entry fee for short films, spots or music videos during the early entry is $35 per submission (Student with ID: $20). Entries must be postmarked by Feb. 16, 2004. HypeFest is accepting short films (40 minutes or less), commercials, music videos and promos for competition screening for its 2004 event, which will take place July 23-25, 2004 in Hollywood, California. Only works completed in 2003 or 2004 are eligible for HypeFest 2004.
Early bird registrations and pricing are now available online for 3D Festival 2004 (www.3dfestival.com), which will be held May 3-6 at Bella Center, Copenhagen. The festival features a noteworthy line up of showcases, master classes, workshops and speakers. Early Bird pricing is available through April 4.
An impressive list of speakers for the conference, organized by CGNetworks and Gnomon School of Visual Effects, has already been announced, with more to be confirmed before the event in May. These include:

da Vinci Systems launched its first annual Master Colorist Awards competition. The company is now accepting submissions in four categories and will feature the winning show reels at the NAB2004 exhibition, April 19-22, in Las Vegas. In addition, winning colorists in the TV and long form, theatrical release, commercial and music video categories will receive a trophy and three days of all-expenses-paid training with Kevin Shaw, the company's director of training, at da Vinci's facilities in Coral Springs, Fla.
"This competition is designed to showcase the innovation, creativity, and skill with which our clients have put da Vinci products to work," said da Vinci vp of marketing and product management Matthew Straeb. "Post houses and other creative firms are continually finding new ways to use our film enhancement and restoration tools. We look forward to highlighting these achievements on the worldwide stage provided by NAB2004."

MTA Metro Art is holding the 2004 Neighborhood Poster Series. The selected artworks will be reproduced in a range of poster formats and displayed throughout the Metro system including stations, trains, buses and various other locations. Please note that this is a qualification based call so no proposals are requested. Eligibility is limited to Los Angeles County-based professional artists and illustrators.
Softimage launched its Student Animation Contest 2004, which seeks to recognize the leading talent from up-and-coming animators worldwide. "Be The Hero" invites both full and part-time students to submit a piece of animation, which could win them one of three two-part prizes. Top prizes include a production license of the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software, with one year's maintenance for the winner, plus Academic versions of the industry's leading nonlinear software system for the winner's home institution.
