Submissions for the annual Into the Pixel art exhibition are open for the 2009 exhibit. Now in its sixth year, this is the only juried digital art exhibition that brings together experts from the fine art world and the interactive entertainment industry.

NVIDIA Corporation, inventor of the GPU, has launched the GPU Ventures Program, a new global initiative whose aim is to identify, support and invest in early stage companies leveraging the GPU for visual and other computing applications. NVIDIA is also launching the GPU Venture Zone website, a portal to publicly showcase the innovative GPU applications being developed by its ecosystem partners.
The Savannah Film Festival, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, is accepting entries for the 2009 festival, to be held Oct. 31-Nov. 7. Featuring the best in independent, innovative and influential film from around the world, the annual festival presents a full range of cinematic creativity from both award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers. Features, documentaries, professional and student shorts, both live action and animated, will be considered. All entries must be postmarked by July 6.
Hard Times Short Film CompetitionDeadline: April 19, 2009
London-based multiplatform distributor Digital Rights Group have partnered with L.A.-based online filmmaking community Filmaka (www.filmaka.com) to sponsor a short film competition around the theme of "Hard Times." The winners win a cash prize plus the chance of being propelled to the movie making major league. If their three-minute short film submitted is selected, the distributor is offering the winners the opportunity to turn it into a TV series, movie or Web series.

Digital-Tutors will support Game-Artist.Net's "Scene from a Movie" competition, an environment challenge supported by CGSociety for new and experienced artists interested in bridging the gap between motion pictures and videogames by creating visual realism and providing real-time experiences through selecting a specific scene from a film and creating a 3D environment based on that chosen setting.

The feature film competition is open to first and second films of any genre, language, format and running time, provided that they were completed after January 1, 2008. The works will not be divided into categories.
PooP, in association with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London International Animation Festival (LIAF) and the Global Handwashing Day coalition have launched a competition for short animation films, which tackle the serious issues of hygiene and sanitation in an engaging and thought-provoking way.

Stella Artois, film networking site TriggerStreet.com and award-winning actor Kevin Spacey announced a new award program designed to help independent filmmakers. The program, called the Stella Artois Short Film Project, will provide a $50,000 cash award to one lucky filmmaker who submits an entry to TriggerStreet.com. The film, which must be no longer than 10 minutes, will be judged by the TriggerStreet.com community as well as a panel of high-level actors, directors and producers. The first winner will be unveiled and his/her short film premiered later this year.
