Evangelion: 1.01

So, the past is indeed resurrected. 1.01 is essentially a transformation of the first six episodes of the original anime. In the now familiar post-apocalyptic Tokyo-3 the Earth is still under attack by the otherworldly Angels. Shinji Ikari is summoned by his father to pilot the Eva Unit 01, a towering biomech unit capable of defeating these enigmatic creatures. The Fourth Angel has descended, and the distantly cold Rei Ayanami is too injured to assume her pilot duties. Shinji may be only fourteen, but the world is now thrust into his hands.

Okay, here is a brief list of anime you should be on the lookout for. Obviously, the batch of anime coming out this year far exceeds this, and my personal list is much longer. But if I listed everything that caught my attention, I would be writing about the Tokyo Anime Fair for weeks to come. And I just don’t have that kind of time.

The no holds barred, post-apocalyptic fight saga togainu no chi ~Bloody Curs~ kicks its way onto the Anime News Network screen this October. 

Heroman Anime Fair

The brain-child of Stan Lee’s POW Entertainment and studio Bones, Heroman is the story of Joey Jones, an average boy devoid of confidence and strength. But, in classic comic book fashion, Joey happens upon a toy robot that transforms into the mighty giant robot Heroman. Together they not only learn and grow, but are also Earth’s only hope in combating an alien invasion. 

The new Con on the block, brought to us by Chase Wang, continues to grow. July is shaping up to be a good month for anime and manga fans.

Ikki Tousen

Evangelion 1.11

Eva fans, don’t get too excited. Well, not just yet anyway. In Evangelion 1.11, the Second Impact has already happened, and Tokyo-3, a last bastion of humanity, still stands on shaky ground. And yes, the fourth, fifth, and sixth angel are about to descend in yet another bid to destroy human civilization. So, Shinji Ikari is summoned to NERV, the secret organization charged with defeating these otherworldly creatures. As the “third child,” he must pilot the advanced bio-mecha unit Eva-01. The problem is, Shinji is reclusive, passive, and utterly despondent.

Tekken 6 PSP

Okay, essentially you’re looking at a carbon copy, yet on a portable platform. So, what more can I say? It’s the same, entirely unlocked forty playable characters (some old, some new). You’ve got Arcade Battle, Story Battle, Ghost Battle, Challenge Battle, Network, and Practice. From the minute I picked up my PSP, intuition and training took over. Power kicks, combos, and special throws: every technique was effortlessly executed via the familiar layout of the portable console.  

Ghost in The Shell 2.0

Originally released in 1995, Mamoru Oshii’s startling – and growingly – accurate look at the future tracks a typical story in the life of Major Motoko Kunsanagi.  With a body more cybernetic than flesh, she hunts the streets of Hong Kong for the elusive Puppet Master. In this world, hacks are no longer limited to laptops and government mainframes but destabilize human brains and limbs themselves. Amid corporate and political intrigue, how do you hunt a criminal capable of manipulating machines and human bodies? When consciousness can exist and operate in cyberspace, a new and truly global stage in human existence emerges.
