One could argue that SXSW Interactive is as much about online innovation as the ability to connect and find meaning in relationships. Community building, for profit or goodwill, was a sentiment echoed in many of the presentations held during the 2010 conference.

 

I have been wondering how I should begin with this new thing, to write a regular blog for AWN as one of their new-featured experts.  Being me, I think I’ll start with a gripe.

The best thing about the Oscars are the home parties where everyone yells and screams when their favorites win or lose. 

As the Super Bowl has become as more of an event than a footdball game, the Oscars have always been an event, an event that draws its demographics from across the board.  Men, women and children huddle together to eat, drink, gossip and cheer and to join in and share the dazzling world of make believe.  But inbetween all the hoopla and contrivance there are always just enough wonderful and moving moments to bring us back year after year.

Hooray for Hollywood!

Visual Effects workers finally took to the streets in a protest march during the 2013 Academy Awards. But it seemed like their message was muddled. What are the problems, and what are possible solutions? 

The 20^th annual Cartoon Forum took place September 22-25 in the beautiful town of Stavanger, Norway, capital of the coastal fjord-filled county of Rogaland. The premier European co-production forum for animation for TV and new media platforms takes place each year in a different city and affords participants the opportunity to present their project to all the key players of the animation industry. Always marked by a convivial atmosphere, the event in this milestone year had an especially positive and cohesive vibe, with attendees seemingly enjoying simply being together to share their common enthusiasm.

Few FFAF episodes have challenged the potent potential of what a jam-packed powder-keg of animation multilarities can elicit in the burgeoning minds of those seeking more lore and eternal wisdom of this frame-by-frame La Bamba than number 24.  This show is huge.  Ron Diamond + Dan Sarto = how to invent and maintain an international animation archive and animation short distribution empire while enjoying the best of Scotch and olive canning.  The Animation Room + The Animation Room = how to create an animation studio boyband right out of college.  And finally, Billy + Bill + William Frenzer = how to develop treasured American comedy songs into animated music videos that change the course of human history.  Perfection, sometimes, does not take time.
