New Animation Festival in Chicago offers Championship Belts as prizes. Boxing matches to follow?
Animation Torrent is a new animation event starting up in Chicago next Spring. Organizer Taylor Armstrong describes the game plan:
"I'm launching a new animation festival near Chicago next year. Specifically on April 17, 2014 for just one evening of two programs. The screening will be at the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge, IL. I'll be programming two blocks; a wacky, fun and goofy screening with content that doesn't drift beyond what'd be seen in a tame PG-13 film and a "late night" block for the content that leans toward adult themes."
Submissions are open now.
Selected films will compete for three prizes: Best in Show, Best Student Short and an Audience Award.
My favourite part of the Torrent is the ingenious idea to offer winners Championship Belts. Secretly hoping that this involves either brother Quay getting into the ring for 12 rounds with Jan Svankmajer.
