Raoul Servais, a Painter-Filmmaker's Journey In English and French 120 pages softcover A significant figure of the Belgian, and world, animation film scene, Raoul Servais is best known as the maker of roughly a dozen animated films and one feature, each of which is an important date in the evolution of the animation art. From 'Chromophobia' (1966) to 'Nachtvlinders (Nocturnal Butterflies)' (1998), all of these films have won several important prizes at major international film festival. Written by Philippe Moins, this first monograph of Raoul Servais describes the making of his films, his first activities as a painter and illustrator, his co-operation with Magritte, his teaching years and his various artistic collaborations, but it mainly presents a critical analysis of his work. It ends with a text written by Jan Temmerman on the relationship between Servais and the city of Ghent, as well as Servais' entire filmography. "Raoul Servais, A Painter-Filmmaker's Journey" is published by the 'Stichting Raoul Servais Foundation' on the occasion of the exhibition 'Raoul Servais' at the Musée-Château in Annecy (open till October 1999).
