NEW FILMS/WORKS IN PROGRESS
TODD KURTZMAN AND FRIENDS DID MARYLOU IN THE
NEW SICK & TWISTED SHOW It is a really fast moving 3 minute short
with a slick professional soundtrack. The hero ends up in Munchkin Land,
kills one of the wicked witches and then comes the funny erotic twist to
it. Kurtzman's pals on the project were Danny Shorago and Luke Longin. Part
of it was made while he worked at Danger Productions and other sections
were made at Colossal.
KATHY ENGLEHARD PREMIERED THE WATER SKIER
at the Annual Screening of Filmworks at DeAnza College in June. It was the
only animation in the show. She made it using colored pencils on paper and
says Monoco Labs was a big help in getting the film completed on time. She
said that making the 3 minute short was two years of torture. She thinks
"animation is the S&M art form of the art world." It was her
first film. Her next work will be done on computers.
TIM HITTLE PREVIEWED HIS LATEST SHORT Years
ago he amazed everybody with The Potato Hunter, and now J. Clay Meets Canhead
is the film people are talking about. In August he showed it at a local
screening room in San Francisco for his friends, and then rushed across
the Bay Bridge to the U.C. Theatre in Berkeley where it was screened with
James and the Giant Peach, Nightmare Before Christmas, Selick's Slow Bob
and Richard Zimmerman's Birdhouse. Selick was supposed to be there, but
he was in Europe to help Disney promote the European release of James and
the Giant Peach. At the last moment Gary Meyer found a few people to speak
in Selick's place including Brian Rosen, Tim Hittle, Richard Zimmerman,
Pete Kozachik, Norm and Bonita DeCarlo and Bill Boes. People who went said
it was a great evening!
Marty Mc Namara says Canhead is "a beautiful piece of character animation."
Buck (aka Steve Buckley) says the film is "Gorgeous. Canhead continues
the entertaining mythology Hittle created for The Potato Hunter. Chris Peterson's
photography was wonderful and Wave Group Sound (James Allen and friends)
produced an exceptional soundtrack. The audience laughed a lot. They loved
it. It was a great night!"
DAN McHALE is working on a drawn-on-paper
animated short called Sex Pudding. It will be 3 to 5 minutes long. There
are rumors that Mike Johnson is working on an exceptional animated short
with an original score composed and performed by Primus. Tray Thomas also
has a work in progress.
