FOX HUGHES IS TAKING A SABBATICAL from the animation world to pursue the publication of his children's books. Fox has worked throughout the Bay Area and has been the principal animator on 9 CD-ROMs and numerous commercials and films. He recently worked as a senior animator for 18 months with the Learning Company where he created Tally Cat and Pop, two of the main characters in the company's latest product Math Journey.
Other recent projects he has worked on are Toe Jam and Earl (not yet released) that was produced by Kirk Henderson, and Zero Gravity for Full Circle Media/Cube Art. It features two goofy monkeys named Ham and Enos that were designed by David Freeman.
Fox plans to concentrate on writing and illustrating his children's books. He also has several speaking engagements lined up including one at Mills College for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators in November. The premise of the talk will be "Believe in yourself and make your dream come true." He states, "I never started drawing until I was 55, but thanks to the encouragement of a lot of people, I learned to believe in myself and live my dream." He does not advocate waiting as long as he did to "get it on."

CONGRATULATIONS TO PETER ASHLOCK AND HELGA ROMOSER, they were married on Aug. 3. Ashlock went to Yale to study animation with John Hubley many years ago and Romoser is an underground cartoonist.
