Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday Dec. 1, THE 13th ANNUAL TEDDY BEARS FILM FESTIVAL at 1 and 2:30 PM each day at the Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley. Program includes films and videos from Weston Woods, Phoenix/BFA, the National Film Board of Canada and the PFA collection. Some animated work will be included.

PACIFIC DATA IMAGES is currently gearing up for their first fully animated feature film, co-produced with Dreamworks SKG. And, they are continuing to produce high-profile visual effects and animation for feature films and commercials. They have immediate opening for experienced traditional and computer character animators as well as technical directors and lighting animators. Other production positions are also available.

Among the talent need are: an animation manager, character animators, technical directors, assistant TD's/render wranglers, CG lighting animators, effects animators, graphics software developers, film recordist/technician.

NICKELODEON MOVIES IN NEW YORK CITY plans to turn THE STINKY CHEESE MAN AND OTHER FAIRLY STUPID TALES by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith into a feature. Lane Smith, who was art director on James and the Giant Peach, will co-direct.

The company is presently hiring their stroyboard artists, and they will soon be hiring the rest of the production team. They plan to use a variety of techniques on the film including cel animation, cut-outs, cg, stop-motion, etc. The ad they handed out at Ottawa reads "Once upon a time, Nickelodeon Movies decided to make a funny, non-traditional, animated feature in New York City. Needed: animators (character, cut-out, cg) storyboard artists, background painters, designers, special effects artists, etc. Sign up now! The production is headed by producer Jerry Beck (a vice-president of Nick and the author of several fine books about animation). Rebecca Poole, formerly with Colossal Pictures, is heading up the talent search team. Her fax number is (212) 846-1769. She mentioned they are going to need an intern (or two) next year and that they might be willing to fly the right person out to the Big Apple. The company will also bend over backwards to help the right animators, etc. relocate.

 

SONY IN LOS ANGELES is said to be gearing up to create a feature titled DINATOPIA (or Dinotopia?) Harry Walton, Animation Supervisor, needs a computer graphics crew.
