THE FEATURE "FRANK AND OLLIE" ABOUT TWO OF DISNEY'S NINE OLD MEN OPENS MAY 3 FOR A WEEK RUN IN THE BAY AREA
Filmmaker Theodore Thomas calls the 90 minute film, "a character study of how artists create." It covers the lifelong friendship of Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnson (they wrote the classic animation book, DISNEY ANIMATION: The illusion of Life) and how they have worked together on projects. About 20 minutes of clips of their work from Disney films are included. There are also wonderful scenes of Frank playing Dixieland with the Firehouse Five, and Ollie with his steam locomotive. The film opens in SF at the Embarcadero 5, in the E. Bay at the Albany Twin, and at the Palo Alto Square.

FIFTH LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION CELEBRATION AND ANOTHER TOURNEE OF ANIMATION
Expanded Entertainment purchased the back page of Daily Variety (March 22 animation issue) and ran a full page color ad promoting the next Animation Celebration. The date was given as January 1997. Considering the cost of the as they may be serious (they have announced this event in the past and then canceled their plans without telling the press).
As for the Tournee, the rights were recently purchased by Expanded Entertainment from Goldwyn. Gary Meyer told my contemporary animation class at SF State that Expanded plans to release a 35mm package of highlights of the L.S. Animation Celebration, and probably a new Tournee of Animation next year.
